Season of Summer Light
Week 29, Saturday - The Marketplace
"As I promised couple of days ago (see here), today I'll take you to the Finnish marketplace. The reason for this expedition is simple, you really haven't seen Finnish summer if you haven't visited the marketplace. To understand the importance of this subject, you first need to know something about the Finnish society. Today Finland is a typical information society, with all the technological schemes like broadband connections, databases, social media, mobile phones, tablets etc. But it has not always been like that. [...]"

Thanks for comment Sury. I've only now realized that telling about the Finnish culture could have provided an interesting emphasis to this season. I've now only used them to break the continuum of Aura. Next time I might know better..

Season of Summer Light
Week 30, Wednesday - Hot, hot, hot!!
"It doesn't get much better than this. We've been having days with +30 degrees of Celsius (85 degrees at Fahrenheit scale) and even at nights the temperature doesn't fall below +20 degrees (70 degrees at Fahrenheit scale). This is definitely the peak of Finnish summer, when it comes to temperature. The reverse side of this is that it's too hot to do anything meaningful. Even sitting inside a house leads to sweating. To refresh ourselves we have, like many others, gone swimming whenever possible. The transparent lakes offer us a bit of cold water which will drive the heat away - until you rise from the water. [...]"

Thanks for the kind words! I had to check from Wikipedia where Wyoming is excatly in the US. :D In terms of temperature, it seems we have same kind of weather. Looking through the wikipedia article, looks like a very nice place to live (I envy the mountains). :-)

Season of Summer Light
Week 30, Saturday - Summer Flowers
"For Aura this summer has really been about flowers. Everywhere we go, she wants to see the flowers and pick them. We have even had to prohibit her flower picking in public parks and yards of other people. While it looks like a pretty random activity in general there is one aspect I especially like about it: the untrained mind. There are no particular flowers that would be favored and there are no weeds. Every flower she finds represents something to her in a natural way that escapes the categorizing mind of an adult. To me, this looks like [...]"

Ps. My original plan for 'Season of Summer Light' was to end it after week 30 and then move to next season. This won't happen right now, because the next season is not quite ready yet and I'm waiting something to arrive. Therefore I'll have to continue 'Season of Summer Light' with a week or two (still a bit uncertain how long it will take to reach the next step). Good thing about delay is that while the next season is going to be good, I can still push couple summer images into this season which I love very much.

Toni,
Glad you are able to enjoy Summer for couple of weeks more. I like the overhead shot.
A different perspective than the usual.

Thanks Sury. I've found out that overhead shot most often works because of different perspective. You should try it whenever you see a good chanche to frame something like that - pretty often it works. One of the rare undisputed perspectives.

Season of Summer Light
Week 31, Wednesday - Searching for summer light
"When I started this season, the 'Season of Summer Light', I was worried about a good light. Summer being a very bright season I was particularly concerned about hard light and if I would find suitable places for softer light. Lately I've become more interested in 'capturing that sweet summer light in my frames', which means using light as a part of composition and trying to get some feeling of warm and heat in to my images. To me, this change of objective speaks about development and I feel I'm getting more comfortable. I took this particular shot of Aura when we were coming home from the beach one evening. It took me many attempts during four or five days to get it right, so I'm pretty satisfied with result – and to me it captures the feeling of those evenings very nicely. While it's been challenging picture for me, I thought I might as well share 'my recipe' for this kind of picture as it might inspire others as well: [...]"

I see Aura (no pun intended). Nice (back) lighting. She loves to pose for the camera doesn't she? :)

Well it's kind of two faced situation. Allthough she doesn't know 'posing' as such, she is excited for takign pictures but it last only until she hears shutter sound. Then she'll say 'it's done! Daddy doesn't take pictures anymore'. If I haven't got it right, there might not come second change - and my usual tricks for making her laugh doesn't quite work as nicely as they did at the beginining of the summer. In short, it's getting harder..

Season of Summer Light
Week 31, Saturday - In the sun
"It doesn't happen very often to me, but I love the moment when camera cease to exist merely as 'a reproduction machine of what I see' and the aesthetic qualities particular to photography, such as black silhouettes and exaggerated field of perspective, starts to draw the world. I took this image about a week ago when Finland had one of the most warm summer week in 50 years. Amazing heat which makes me smile! It was about 30 degrees of Celsius and over 20 at nights every day (85 and 70 at Fahrenheit scale respectively). On top of that our bedroom measured almost 30 degrees at night (85 at Fahrenheit scale), which made our sleeping difficult. The particular reason why I like this image, besides its graphical qualities, is that it captures so nicely the heat of that special week and Aura bathing in the sun and water. One of my own favorites, for sure.

Succeeding with this image led me to think about the process. [...]"
