Season of Touit - Picture 15
Week 40, Wednesday - Getting closer
""If your photographs aren't good enough, you're not close enough" said Robert Capa. The Capa was, of course, redefining photojournalism's new approach at the early twentieth century, but I can't help but quote him when speaking about macro photography. Getting close is what macro photography is about and I am constantly surprised how even quite ordinary things transform when one approaches them closer than what naked eye would see. This picture shows a rather popular subject in photography (a sunflower), but getting closer transforms it to textures of yellow and green, creating a very different picture than 'the sunflower in the field' cliché. While I'm pretty sure Capa wasn't photographing with a macro lens [...]"

Season of Touit - Picture 16
Week 40, Saturday - Inspiration and gear
"I’ve always been inspired by the high quality gear (at pretty rare occasions when I have had a possibility to use such) and Zeiss Touit 2.8/12 & Touit 2.8/50M are no different in this regard. Feeling that there are no optical obstacles regarding image quality can certainly be a source of inspiration that makes you work harder with your photography. I don’t want to say you need expensive equipment for better photographs, but my point is perhaps easier to understand if I turn it upside down. Take any point & shoot compact camera from yesteryear with their ‘cheap silver-plastic aesthetics’ and you will immediately see how such a gear can lower your inspiration because [...]"

Season of Touit - Picture 17
Week 41, Wednesday - Being and time
"I’ve been using the Zeiss Touit 2.8/50M in different scenarios and while it is a lens with great versatility, it is also difficult to come up with right kind of pictures that demonstrates its marvelous macro capabilities and still be interesting enough from photography’s point of view. To demonstrate these macro capabilities I wanted to do at least one picture at minimum focusing distance just to have a concrete example how close one can get with 2.8/50M and what kind of magnification does it offer. [...]"

Nice sharpness, Toni. Is that a single shot or did you stack them?

Thanks Sury! It's a single shot with aperture of f/14. At this range the f/14 still gives pretty shallow dof, but just enough to render the fly sharp enough. Loving this lens when I hit the sweetspot like in this one.

The fly looks amazing Toni. I like the fall off in focus, nice and smooth, as well as the critical sharpness as well.
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Season of Touit - Picture 18
Week 41, Saturday - A Play in a Dark
"The Finnish autumn nights, before the snow comes, can certainly be quite dark and humid. The darkness descends quite early and it seems that it's always raining. It's really a depressing period between bright & colorful autumn and white winter. However, for the children humid autumn nights are perfect opportunities to play all kinds of games and plays with flashlights. Kids here do play these sort of things, but for some reason I never got into these thrilling games in the dark when I was young. I'm lucky since because of Aura I get to play it now at the older age. [...]"

Fabulous lighting Toni - the rear lighting silhouetting the figures, and then the flashlight in the foreground - great! :)

Thanks for the kind words, Birma. It was actually a bit difficult situation to come up with anything else than black picture with one lightspot in it. I didn't invent the setup (two lights just like you said), but reacted to it very fast once I saw it happening. Still, took couple of walks around neighborhood to get it right..

Season of Touit - Picture 19
Week 42, Wednesday - The Zeiss look
"The last week of the Season of Touit is starting and it might be proper moment to ask if something has changed in my photography after having high quality lenses like Zeiss Touit 2.8/12 & Touit 2.8/50M. When I started this season and I had Zeiss lenses for the first time in my hand, I had a somewhat unconscious preconception in my mind. My preconception was a concept and meme called 'the Zeiss look' which originates from Zeiss user base and is more based on cultural knowledge than concepts of optical engineering. [...]"

Toni,
Is that a pine cone? Looks nice but I can't "feel" the Zeiss look though.
