Re: Going backwards - A580

Hi - yes, I keep a regular eye on LCE - they had a 350 body for £150 a week or so ago, but I hesitated and lost it - snooze, you lose, lol... They've got some good prices on the 300, but I really liked the output from the 14mp, and it won't be used for any high-iso work - probably just macro with th...

Re: Going backwards - A580

I can quite identify with returning to the A580...recently got an A65 and whilst it's nice to have the extra resolution [to match the 900 on APS-C] for good light work, the 580 16mp sensor still seems [to me] the best Sony have managed so far...so if you can live with the VF...I did wonder about the...

Re: Delta Macro ring

...I will see how the Delta performs with our 580 when I have time. It did not produce any noticeable errors with earlier cameras, I'm pretty sure we used it with the A550. David, if you get a chance to try your 580 that would be great - would be nice to know if it's my body or flash at fault, or i...

Re: Delta Macro ring

You can't do reliable pre-flash TTL in MF live view, that's the real issue. It is not the fault of the flash, it's the fault of the system - the camera can not do two things at once from the same imaging sensor. But it works fine in MF-check Live View [although, of course, you get the mirror 'doubl...

Re: Delta Macro ring

Hi - sorry to resurrect an old thread, but couldn't find anything else as detailed about the ring-flash... wondering if anyone is using an A580 & Delta ring-flash combo - just got the flash [for xmas, but obviuosly had to be tested], and whilst it works fine on the A700/A900, on the A580 it beha...

Re: Gallery for magazine

Will be sorry to see the end of a printed mag - fully understand the decision, but for me there's still no substitute for a well-printed image on excellent quality paper... [...and that after sitting in front of screens for 30+ yrs] Thanks for all the previous editions, David [from a comparatively n...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

Well, my 580 has arrived [thanks, Park Cameras - really quick delivery considering weather and xmas!] - annoyingly, I've not got any spare batteries with me at the mo' [only NP400 for the 5D+18-250 that I'll be using over the hols], so the supplied one is on charge... ...but first impressions are go...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

I also have kept my A100 for a similar reason - it's got something going for it which I do not see in the files from later cameras. Agreed - recently been revisiting some of my older images from 2007/2008 and there's something about the colour rendition that looks more attractive than the 700/900.....

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

Guess maybe it's that bit bigger or the content is that bit more awkward to handle - I've seen many similar probs with data content in display over the years, so not surprised.... ...any thoughts on other methods of publication [I do like the printed versions, mainly for the sheer quality of the pap...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

See you've put a ref in to the long version - unfortunately still getting the ‘undefined’ error - oh well... Is the full review going to appear in the mag ? - appreciate that the A55 one needs to take precedence, but if the 580 has to wait for #2/2011 I guess it'll be too late ? ...maybe as a PDF ? ...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

Very good review [as always] - enough to persuade me to order one... ...one question to David though - do you think the A350 still has anything to offer over the A580 from an 'image quality/style' point-of-view - I'm particularly thinking of this in the context of your "Sony Alpha 350 – a Creat...

Re: Alpha 580 review is now up

David - any chance of having a "click the Read More link to get it as one big scrolling monster." option as you provided for the A55 ? - I happen to be one of those strange people who prefer it ! [tried it by going to the 2010/12 page and clicking the read more, but it just issues an error...

Re: Registration and content

David - how will this work for existing 'paper' subscriptions ? - I'm not sure I recall seeing anything like a membership number on the delivery sheet...
