Re: Is film dead ?

I had a 700Si but when tidying a few weeks ago I discovered the shell had cracked from the top plate down to the mount boss. Definitely wasnt like that when I put it away. Also some goo leaking out of the crack. Does it have an internal battery perhaps? Anyway I sold the battery grip and the 5400 fl...

Re: A77II ramblings and thoughts

Yeah my back is complaining. Too much tidying, painting, gardening etc during lockdown. The dog is shattered as she usually sleeps in an afternoon and now we are around, she follows us everywhere. My camera hasn't been used in near 4 weeks now and I'm getting an itchy shutter finger. But we both hav...

Re: A77II ramblings and thoughts

Barry, glad to see you are exploring what the various camera models can and can't do.
Hope they are behaving!

cheers,
Mike

Re: Is film dead ?

Vitor, Sadly my only film camera is no longer fuctional but there is some merit in the old systems. Remember the 35mm film is "full frame" and yes I sometimes commented on the large size of the Dynax range of cameras but take a look at this. My old Dynax 700Si AF 35mm film camera and my cu...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

Yes the A77 gave extra reach but I found the IS wanting at 400mm. In Nikon land the VR in the 200-500 is outstanding allowing me to hand hold at 500mm on a crop body at 1/60 but the short end is too long if you know what I mean. Every system has compromises, we just pick what suits best. It's clear ...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

Barry, if I didn't major on aviation and wildlife. the Sony kit would have done me for a good few years yet and as you say there are some great old lenses for A mount. I loved the KM 17-35, 70-200G f2.8 and 70-400G all of which were great on the A99. I struggled a bit to find a good wide-tele zoom h...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

I've used Ffordes in the past when starting with Nikon. Bought some secondhand stuff, think 18-55 and 70-300. Some stuff is expensive but I just shop around. WEX, MPB, LCE and a few others. They're a good distance from me maybe 130 miles. There are no decent camera shops anywhere close by so I have ...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

Pete, I listened to several £500 CD players and they sounded so much better than my old one. But the guy said just listen to this and decide if it's worth an extra £600. A Naim CD, not even a powered tray but like going from an AM radio to FM. Incredible sound quality but just too much more than I w...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

Hi Barry, glad to hear you've warmed to the A99. With good glass it really produces superb images and though I'd love to see what 36mp, 42mp etc would look like, I really do not feel I need more than 24. My laptop couldn't cope and I'd need bigger cards and backup storage. I dabbled with 14bit uncom...

It's an impressive geological feature, something I would enjoy seeing but sadly I doubt I'll ever get there.

Re: A mount s/h lens prices have "bombed"

I heard a few negative comments (more bitching perhaps) re the 70-400G Mk1 but mine was superb. I pre-ordered it just after it was launched and got one of the first in the UK. Never regretted it for a second. My copy was excellent. It was a fair improvement in IQ over the 70-300G. It was heavy, buil...

Re: Sony a77iii rumor

Sad to hear that if that turns out to be reality. When I transitioned from Minolta to Sony I had high hopes and their 70-400G was a stonking lens on both the A77 and A99, better than the equivalent Nikon or Canon product. Even against the competitions Mk2 lenses the Sony Mk1 just about held its grou...

Re: Sony a77iii rumor

I was sad to leave Sony but they just dumped the A mount and left me no option but to defect. Like you I don't like the E mount bodies nor the eye watering glass prices.
I still have a A77mk2 which the wife uses occasionally with a Tamron 16-300 which is a good travel combo.
