Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I rarely contribute to discussions, being a keen and serious amateur who feels that he has little to contribute and a lot to learn. HoweverI find this discussion extremely shallow. I used to use Lightroom, but DxO is where all me shots go before I even look at them; its automatic treatment gets the...

Re: trade in the 57 for an A6000

It's much better for the sensor to outresolve the lens than the other way around.

I agree about the tele lenses and OSS. A dslr might be preferable here. But in some cases it doesn't matter; at airshows, I often use manual focus and pan with the action. But for birding or wildlife, it's a problem.

Re: trade in the 57 for an A6000

Mind you, for tele lengths, either a dslr or adapted lens may be better. For now?

Re: trade in the 57 for an A6000

Like your reluctance to let go completely on Nikon, I still have my A37 and no way is that going especially as I have the Sony DT 18-135 and a couple of Auto focus Minolta lenses which perform brilliantly on that body. I'm just struggling to build a decent small kit round the A6000. I guess my best...

Re: E-mount tele zoom comparisons.

I tried my trusty old Minolta 100-300 APO on my A77 and was a little disapointed. It performed better on the old A100 so I sadly sold it on. Mike The A100 is so only 10mp -- perhaps the newer sensors are more revealing? On my N x-6, the 100-300 APO has less contrast than my newer lenses, but it's s...

Re: SAR SR3 rumour on NEX-7 Replacement next year.

Will it still be rubbish JPeg out put I wonder Which camera has "rubbish JPEG"? I turn NR to "low", as the camera otherwise has pretty heavy-handed NR, but that's my main gripe. Nex-6 output looks better than the Nex-5, but if I want the best quality, I use RAW. Shouldn't be sur...

Re: SAR SR3 rumour on NEX-7 Replacement next year.

This rumour has a low rating, but does not sound impossible since Sony are focussing on the premium market. http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr3-very-first-a7000-rumors-nex-7-successor-has-4k-and-18000-shutter-speed/ I have no interest in upgrading to the A6000 as I do not think there is enough in th...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

I was able to use the lens a lot yesterday, and I have to say that while I'm very happy with the results overall, the lens is kinda sluggish to get going when waking up. Sometimes, half-pressing to get focus took a bit before it would finally figure it out. It seemed more of a problem than I had wit...

Re: I want a pocket NEX

I wish cameras like the RX100 were around several years ago. These kinds of cameras are small enough for all sorts of travel, but give really good results. I had to struggle sometimes with my early digital cameras. The smallest lens for the Nex cameras is the 20mm, but the Nex-6 isn't exactly a pock...

Beercan vs. The World

Coincidentally, the Beercan topic came up on DPR. There is a photo comparison at the bottom which is very telling.

Re: Lenses!

.... but the lens is amazingly compact and whilst it's not L series build it's a mere fraction of the cost of the Canon, big heavy lump of a lens. Anyone saying mirror less is the way to go for compact size lenses, well the Minolta 24-105mm is debunks that firmly. ... Now if you could only attach i...

Re: Lenses!

Well the 55-210 is E mount and not a lot of good for A mount users leaving that aside I don't like the rendering from the samples I've seen, and the Minolta 70-210mm f4 is a proven performer here (at least for me field use wise) I don't consider the lenses comparable Sorry, I meant the Tamron 55-20...

Re: Lenses!

Who's going to buy this middle product? I'll say, three people, max. ;-) This isn't the Goldilocks story. If you're a pro, you can come up with the cash for the high-end lens. For everyone else, you still have options. If you're low on cash, you shouldn't have a FF camera, in which case you can use...

Re: Lenses!

There are always tradeoffs. If size didn't matter, I might have stayed with A-mount, but then there are a couple of other advantages with E-mount. For example, the SLT mirror steals some light.

Re: Lenses!

Couldn't disagree more the camera store guys are nice enough but one's a video guy (his needs are different) and the other is on this quest for "let's change" An ILC would offer me no advantages over my current set up other than a smaller body, having to buy an adapter to use my current l...
