That's what I was thinking. I can get access to an oscilloscope I just wasn't sure if a run of the mill diode would respond fast enough.
BTW I'm trying to get this info so they can use it when trying to tune out the interference.

I've recently started using radio poppers with my Alpha and two flashes. The poppers work great, but on occasion they pick up some radio interference and it causes the flash to pop similar to when you hit the AEL button. There is quite a bit of info on the Dyxum forum. I've wondered if the short to fire is there for legacy support or if this is still how the camera triggers the flash.
