Work Permits for Foreign Photogs
I read an interesting post on another forum. A US photog has been hired to photograph a wedding in Ireland and the question of work permits and the use of radio poppers/frequency legality outside the US being the concern. I had never thought about this, does anyone know what the answer is? Thanks, Deb

Re: Online Tutorials?
I have to 2nd Brian's recommendation of Gary Friedman's ebooks for the alphas. Coming from a film background you already know the basics and then some about exposures/compensations, etc. Gary's books will explain all the features of your alpha and how to best use it. I think you are also asking abou...

Re: In defense of the A100
Great shot of the jets. Really shows what the a100 with a good eye behind it can do.

Re: White or Black Color base?
Thanks for the explanation David,BTW your daughter is a lovely young woman. I have the Expodisc, there is much debate on whether it is really worth the expense. It seems to be one of those things some photogs either love it or think it is useless. Does the A700 share the cwb system with the KM 5D an...

Re: White or Black Color base?
Thank you and you are correct. You are the only one that addressed the color base issue. Perhaps it relates to how the sensors reads the card, but that was not spelled out specifically, so I still do not know for sure other than your assertion that it is nonsense. The internet post I was referring t...

Re: White or Black Color base?
Now, now 01af, no need to act like an oaf. I meant I have no vested interest as in it wasn't my theory of the white/black color base, so I didn't care if someone disproves it or not. I wanted to know for the sake of learning how to best adjust my camera. I understood "pure nonsense" comple...

Re: White or Black Color base?
That is a rather cryptic reply. I confess I am not a scientist or technically advanced person. It is something I have read from a couple of different sources. The last article I read before posting my question said the white color base is responsible for the "ethereal skin effects" you get...

Re: White or Black Color base?
Thanks David, fascinating to read. It's amazing how most people don't think what the science behind taking a photograph entails. I have to admit I never really thought much about it myself until I got into photography this past couple of years and really the past few months of wanting to do more tha...

Re: Happy New Year to all!!
This is all very interesting. Being born and bred in the southeastern United States, I have an accent that is quite different than other parts of the my country. My son is a newly minted US Marine and before being sent to his permanent duty station, brought home a lot of guys from the northern state...

Re: White or Black Color base?
I think that is what I was trying to say. I too have read that about the 12% gray card and haven't seen it mentioned in anything else I have read. As I am studying ways to become a better photographer, I was thinking it would be a waste of effort to keep metering off a gray card if my camera had a n...

White or Black Color base?
In researching making corrections in Photoshop, I have read on other forums and in tutorials that Canon uses a white color base and Nikon uses black as a color base. What does the Sony A700 use? This is important as it is the basis of what you need to know to do adjustments in PS accurately. I have ...

Re: A900 and Tilt & Shift
Mia Culpa, I did like the articulated lens. Apparently, I don't know all the capabilities of a tilt shift lens and since Sony doesn't have one, I won't worry about it for the moment.

Re: A900 and Tilt & Shift
All this talk about the tilt shift lens makes me miss the Sony F828, that had a great tilt shift lens, wish it had the alpha mount.

Re: Civility
Don, I really don't understand your reaction at all. Obviously, you are a very talented photographer and I am impressed by the sharpness and clarity of your photos. Why should you care if someone doesn't like your style of photography? For the few that do not there are many who enjoy your work and a...
