Re: Will there really be an A99ii

A7RII maybe I'm the only one to cringe at the £2599 price tag yes or loss of HDD space to massive 42mp files it will come down but try half that even then I'd think twice about it. Mind you looking at the RX updates Sony's pricing has gone insane lately I was in Park Cameras yesterday and only cust...

Re: Will there really be an A99ii

What are the advantages of A99 over A7II or A7RII? with LA-EA4 adaptor?

Re: 35mm Prime lens options for the A7.

They're not cheap. but I think any of the Minolta f2.0 lenses would do justice to your sensor. I am very pleased with the 28mm and 35mm on my A900. Expect to pay up to £300 for each on Ebay, though you may have to wait a few wseeks for one to appear.. The other f2.0 lens is the 100mm which is very h...

Re: 24-85mm Minolta

Mike Hohner tested the Minolta 20mm and 24mm primes and he was not very impressed with the 20mm, the 24 in his view was a cracking lens I agree, at least as far as the 20mm is concerned. It's OK if you want to go that wide on FF (there being a distinct lack of choice!) but for APS-C you're probably...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

One advantage I can think of that I don't see other people mention is that with some photos, you might not mind the distortion and you can dial in less correction and perhaps gain additional resolution in the process. I agree. Recently I used the 16-50mm at 16mm to take some people pics in the tour...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

I'm not sure I can agree with that strategy surely it's best to try to get as good as you can optics wise off the bat, so to speak? Well, yes but that is rather purist! All lens designs have to be a compromise. As well as reducing cost, reducing the amount of glass reduces weight and size, which is...

Re: 18-105G -- Good or Great?

I think it comes down to the very small sensor to lens distance distortion was always a far bigger issue on range-finder designs than normal SLR ones. I think it's Sony policy now to use software rather than expensive glass elements to correct distortion, at least on E-mount lenses. I believe Hasse...

Re: Lenses!

I believe the Tokina 11-16 has had some good reviews. What would suit me (or would if I were using APS-c) would be a nice small prime UWA, like the Vivitar 19mm I used with ny manual focus kit. It wasn't brilliant optically (what UWA is?) but it was OK and it was small and compact (62mm filter threa...

Re: I'm thinking of going down the a 3000 route

I'm in a tourist hot spot on the Isle of Skye at the moment (not in the same league numbers wise as Ephesus I'm sure) and I've been surprised how many compact cameras I've been seeing used. Not quite killed off yet by the mobile phone it would seem. I have seen one tablet being used again - always ...

Re: Sony marketing...DSLR GEAR NO IDEA

I used a lot of Fujichrome 50 which Fuji abandoned to introduce Velvia which I detested. The Fuji 50 just seemed to suit local conditions which Velvia did not. I then switched to Fuji Sensia 100 and Reala 100. At the end of my film days I was using Sensia 100 and Agfa RSX 100 slide films, Reala and...

Re: Speed-priority continuous AF for Nex-6

In the handbook manual for the Nex-6 is this blurb: Continuing to adjust the focus and exposure during Speed Priority Continuous Shooting Set [Autofocus Mode] to [Continuous AF] (page 83). Set [AEL w/ shutter] to [Off] (page 129). • If the Phase Detection AF does not work, the camera does not conti...

Alpha 5000 announced at CES

I assumed this would be a higher-spec A3000, but it appears to be a sort of NEX5 Mk III with 20 Mp sensor and no viewfinder. Goodbye to NEX ('Anyeggs'), hello to yet more confusing Alpha numbering! It comes with the 16-50mm zoom.
