Sony 500 Reflex - through double glazing

Got wind of a mint used Reflex at a good price in LCE Winchester on Dyxum last week. Quick call and it was mine. Arrived a couple of days ago but I haven't had an opportunity to take it out yet. Fitted it to my a700, looked out onto the garden and shot these hand held through a double glazed (not to...

I like the first one best Frank.

Good use of DOF although I might try cropping it into portrait shape and loose some of the space left & right as in the second.

Hi Yildiz and congratultions on becoming a moderator of the forum (very well deserved - although didn't the last person to be granted that status go totally beserke  ) May I humbly suggest that Yildiz (as the idea proposer) should pick 5-7 pictures from the whole bunch and leave the rest for th...

a700 - you want to cry

a700 - you want to cry..... sorry this is misleading, but I couldn't remember how to set the shutter to "Bulb" on my a700, (to stay open whilst the button is pressed). I was in Aperture priority but should have been in Manual. However, to find out and when all else fails: read the User's G...

Re: Replacement A700 ... this year or forget it?

As you will see from a recent post, I had a dilemma about whether to go for the 700 or perhaps the 550 or even wait for the 700 replacement. After the most helpful remarks from others on this site I decided to make the plunge and am expecting delivery of the 700 today. It is still available in the ...

Re: Rutland (smallest county in England for 50% of the time)

I imagine it has a rather large shoreline that's also very shallow. On a low tide the shore expands the county quite a bit, or at least enough to make it larger then the next smallest county. Well done Dusty, you are a very lateral thinker. Wrong, but well done anyway as the answer is so close to y...

Rutland (smallest county in England for 50% of the time)

I'm surprised that no-one has picked up on my location as Rutland (UK) smallest county in England for 50% of the time. Maybe no-one cares. Maybe no-one noticed. But come on, surely you are curious  Thoughts below please (or if you are one of the forum members who lists the latest post on top.....

Re: Morning

What a great idea, and you do have a great morning view Winston. I live in one of the few rural parts of the UK and when I look out in the morning I see my trees. But it depends on the time of year that presents me with its mood. This is early morning winter: http://www.brianyoungphotography.co.uk/w...

Re: Which zoom lens for a new APS-C user?

The Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 had big back focus problems when released - many Alpha users found it impossible to get sharp focus. I think this has affected the popularity of the lens ever since. David I didn't know that David, but thanks for the heads up. Either my photography is so poor that I haven't n...

Re: Which zoom lens for a new APS-C user?

I'm surprised that I am the only voter for the Sigma 18-50 f2.8.

It replaced my standard Sony kit lens (after coming out on top in a review in one of the UK photo mags) and it stays almost permanently on my "back-up" a100.

I'm pleased with it so it gets my vote.
