#2 is my favourite for the nicely balanced colors and the wonderful "metalic" look of the steam boiler. I am all in for decent effects, for me the art lies in balancing them to enhance the visual impression but remaining mainly invisible - like spices in the food.
Add to that that in the German Sony user forum I read the first report about a wheel issue on the A33 (http://www.sonyuserforum.de/forum/showthread.php?t=103886)! The same forum had sent an open letter to Sony regarding the wheel problems, but (I would have bet on that anyway) not one word of reacti...
[It stayed "fixed" for a little while, but then the problem returned. Uh. Not what could be read as a glowing recommendation for Sony products. In that context I don't understand why Sony didn't bother to get those things out of the world. Nothing is worse for a sustainable success than b...
Dr. Harout, thanks for the link. I went through several of those threads, not all of them reported long-term success. I have to admit that I don't feel at ease with pumping pressurized cleaner into an optical device. There was even a high level repair reported, following a seemingly difficult disass...
Coen, the price I mentioned came from an independent camera workshop that was recommended in the German Sony user forum. The biggest part of that amount is due for the spare part and working time to repair the back wheel, which does not operate properly and leads to missed frames when you are in a h...
... that Sony didn't design the A700 to be used in Hawaii. Well, since it also doesn't work in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, British Columbia, Japan, Egypt, Jordan, Isra...
Unfortunately, with electronic devices it is usually true that it doesn't make sense to repair them because the repair price is such a high percentage of the value of the device. It usually just makes more sense to buy a new device -- especially since the new device often has been improved and some...
Thanks to all for the advice. It looks like I will take back my camera without repairs, live with the quirks - probably use my LX3 meanwhile, it is amazingly good especially for its size - and have a close look at the A77 when it appears. The point really is that the price for the repair equals the ...
My A700 now has 50.000 frames, a jumping rear wheel (sometimes switches no step, sometimes 10 or continuous, rarely only one), an almost blocked power switch due to a lemonade incident and an AF in need of adjustment. On the wish list is a grid screen. The estimate of costs from our German service y...
I'd like to thank you for voting for my "Another Kind Of Autumn Wind" photo. I surely am proud of having won this challenge, as the competing images were truly strong.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2011.
Oh yes, and sitting in cold and snow at the moment it really makes me long for some nice warm coast and days where t-shirt and shorts are sufficient...
I like the cool blue of the light here - stands really out from the "sunset in orange" crowd. And the strong diagonals in the first two photographs are good elements to grasp and keep the view.
