Re: Hi all

Thanks for asking.

Moved on to the A700 when the 7D's sensor began to play up (my daughter still uses it occasionally). A700 now showing its age, so waiting to see how the A77 successor stacks up.

Re: Firmware v04 for Sony Alpha 700

There seems to be some growing concern on dpreview about the wisdom of installing this unofficial firmware - voiding warranty, inability to 'reinstall' if the official version is different. Patience is a virtue (so I'm told) but are any of those concerns valid? If so, perhaps DK should have been a l...

Thanks, David, but already tried both of those before sending off!

The end of the story

JPS quoted £300 plus VAT to replace the sensor. Having already invested in the A700, it just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of cash to restore a camera that would in all probability sit unused in a drawer. Especially when a new WA is at the top of my shopping list. The camera is actually work...

David
email from JPS this morning - "If we provide an estimate and that estimate is refused, there will be a charge of £6.00+VAT. That's it."

Re: Is it my sensor?

Thanks, but it's not the WB. Others have suggested that it may be a shorted sensor clock or blown drive chip (whatever those may be) but hinting it may be terminal. Oh well, looks like I may be heading for the A700

Is it my sensor?

Shot of colour checker chart with 7D. I've tried everything I can think of - change battery, reset defaults, reinstall firmware. This happened a couple of times a few months ago, but now it's every shot. I'd been hoping to hold out for A900 but don't know when that will be arriving, so may have to g...

Just noticed that it works equally well by dragging the left side in. Point is, as you reduce the width of the screen far enough, it forces the text to fit the screen (don't ask me why!)

Re: Screen Viewing Problem

There is an easy solution: Hit the 'restore down' button (ie make sure you are not looking at the article in full screen mode). By dragging the right hand side of the screen inwards you should be able to bring all the text into view. Yes, I know it's counter-intuitive - you'd think moving the edge o...

As I understand it... The new battery has a chip that the a700 is looking for when connected. It tells the camera precisely how much charge is left. If the chip is not there, the camera will not run. Conversely - the battery does not care who uses it, so either the a100 or the a700 may. Will this m...

I too emailed Sony UK and got a similar response. In fairness, it really does depend on which side of the fence you're standing. We're complaining that the US price is too cheap, but from a US perspective the camera is too dear in the UK. Who is to say which price is the correct one? I don't think w...

False hopes!

I do wish Sony would stop mucking us about. If they don't know when it will be available, then please leave it as "coming soon" Now "Available for pre-order as of 24 September." As we feared - SonyUK now showing A700 as available for pre-order from the 17th - poor show, Sony! (At...
