Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm

No doubt but when he's moved on it will take whoever has to sort through all that stuff an awful long time! I did take the time to read a few reviews of the lens and technically it tends to get panned a bit (ie soft corners, distortion, needs stopping down, ho hum oof areas etc), yet often users say...

Re: Future of A mount

A friend of mine said about Sony once "I can't warm to a company that doesn't even say thanks for buying our products in their user manuals". I did check and amazingly I've never seen that printed ever on a Sony product/user guide - unless I missed something! FF budget can appeal I know pl...

Re: Future of A mount

It surprises me how many QC problems there have been on cameras over the years. I am partly of the view that KM's departure might have been hastened with the first black frame problem, all 7d's evidently had it and many 5d's (both of mine one fixed). I doubt they made any money off those cameras, an...

Re: Future of A mount

Look on the bright side it could be worse, if you have a K3-iii, you might be suffering from overheating/battery drain problems/shutter shock (even with MLU), looks like the infamous Pentax QC issues are back again! If someone gave me a Pentax I'd instantly get rid of it - awful awful company, so ma...

Re: Future of A mount

Give the battery a try I get on well with it if you can get one shipped to you. I'm not sure what Sony's strategy for APS-C E Mount is, it seems more "vlog" or consumer based v offering maybe a semi serious better handling body for sports/wildlife. Maybe that will work for them, but I can ...

Re: Future of A mount

A few examples A6000 CIPA - 360 A6300 - 400, A6400 - 410 Not huge gains but an improvement, though of course CIPA is just a test. Still we can see improvements over time. I think those are from the LCD which is from what I can see the same on all 3. Maybe the sensor is the reason (newer copper wirin...

Re: Future of A mount

Have to remember newer cameras are much more power efficient, so I never had issues with AA's on the Pentax/Nikon bodies. The Pentax Li0ion cells were quite small anyway, so AA's were a good choice. The Nikon Li-ion's much larger capacity and DSLR's last ages with those batteries you're looking at 1...

Re: Future of A mount

Yes the Pentax bodies some took AA's, with decent quality cells battery life was fine. As it was on the Nikon DSLR's with 6 in the grip Not sure how well it would hold up to full time live view MILC cameras. Still it can be useful to have. The A3000 wasn't a serious attempt at all IMO, poor viewfind...

Re: Future of A mount

Not sure if this helps but the only good third party cell I've used is the 2-Power NP400 I bought it from Duracell direct years ago, it's working like a champ and easily as good as the originals. Still going strong I tried many others Patona (didn't last long) and some from China/eBay again they jus...

Re: Future of A mount

It's strange really that Pentax survive (a company with far smaller market share than Minolta and being frank Pentax optics are not even near to Minolta in terms of quality), yet we have lost A mount thanks to Sony letting it fade a slow, painful and lingering demise. People were calling out A mount...

Re: Future of A mount

I would add I don't like the Sony grips much because I think they are too big, way too bulky I rarely use the A77 one. But the A99 grip is better because at least it has removed the annoying stem for the battery compartment. They are big, but at least they have a lot of controls v the E mount big wi...

Re: Future of A mount

That would be great ideal in fact, highly doubt it will happen though. Huge loss IMO as A mount deserved far better Sony are content to let A mount drift into history - they had little interest in it for many years mere token gestures. What would interest me more is if they get their act sorted out ...

Selling some of my APS-C A Mount gear

As there is no for sale/wanted on the forums I am posting here It's time to thin out the APS-C gear and I have the following up for sale A77 - under 16k shutter great condition no obvious marks I'll throw in a couple of genuine batteries, remote cable (long one 2m) and a spare protector about as nic...

Re: Future of A mount

Always was fun the tech/gear side, but largely irrelevant to actual photography! I used to go into the local camera shop, a Minolta dealer (now a Nikon one). He knew full well I had pocket money and couldn't afford any of the real Minolta cameras, so I used to buy filters and cable releases. And he ...
