"Chipped" Lenses: What features does the chip confer?
In the forum on lenses people have been discussing a 35 mm focal length lens which the manufacturer (Samyang) has begun to make in the alpha mount. I think this is a manual focus lens. David Kilpatrick expects that it will take another year for Samyang to manufacture this lens with a chip for the al...

Re: SAL85F28 & a900 !
Thanks for the link. Lovely. I have also seen what I thought were 2 lovely images elsewhere on the 'net produced by this lens in combination with the A850, which is the camera body I have. So I am interested in buying this lens even 'though the sole lens I already have has a focal length close to 85...

Re: Sigma 70 mm F2.8EX DG Macro Hood and Filter Query
Hi Kevin, Sorry for reply delay. Wanted to wait 'til I had used it. I am really a novice and have not had a macro lens before. Have not used it on a tripod yet. I like it but I might well like any macro lens, probably. In choosing this lens I was influenced by what JasperD had to say and show (via h...

Re: My new lens strategy
Hi. I bought a 70mm macro lens when I bought my A850 to satisfy my interest in close-up /abstract subjects. I am hoping that Sony comes out with a moderately priced, moderately fast 35mm or 40mm lens and a new 28mm lens design for full-frame. After which I might want a moerately fast and moderately ...

Re: Aperture 2 - Practical solution or dead end for me?
Thanks David. I think my machine can only take a max. of 2GB. Not 100 percent sure so will check. Would Lightroom run better on 2GB than Aperture?

Aperture 2 - Practical solution or dead end for me?
Hello. Yet another query from me. Hopefully am posting in the appropriate forum. I have no wish to upgrade my computer at this stage as for all other (non-photographic ) apps it is more than adequate for me. I would be prepared to add another 1GB RAM if this would make a significant difference. I ha...

Re: GGS Optical Glass LCD Screen Protector For A850
Foto tip ,replying to my enquiry, were uncertain that the A900 protector would fit the A850 . Johnc- there is a dedicated A850 invisible shield . Do you think this product is o.k.? Was it easy or difficult to affix?

Thank you for this info. and comment, Pako. I expect I will use the cards solely with my A850.

GGS Optical Glass LCD Screen Protector For A850
These LCD Protectors are available to fit the A900 but I have not seen them (labelled) for the A850. I have not found the manufacturer's web site. Does anyone know if the A900 lcd protector is a perfect fit for the A850?
Thank you.

Formatting Memory Cards
My new camera accepts CF cards and Sony Pro Duo Mk II Cards and I have one new card of each type. Whilst the manual says one should format CF cards, it does not comment on whether one should or should not format the Pro Duo Mk II card. So I think I will try to unless someone thinks /knows I shouldn'...

Re: Pan Tilt head choice For A850- Any Comments ?
Thank you Walt for your thoughts and sharing your experiences. It seems that any one sort of tripod /head combination is a compromise for general application (especially if one wants to be able to carry it long distances). I am open to the possibility of owning several ( in the future). Interesting ...

Sigma 70 mm F2.8EX DG Macro Hood and Filter Query
Hello. Have only yesterday obtained this lens. Although the instructions say this has a bayonet attachment to the lens it actually seems to screw on. Am I right? I screwed on a 62 mm UV filter and then seemed to be able to screw on the lens hood . But I am not sure one is supposed to do this. That i...
