Re: Bought the SAL-135F18Z

Well their 'tax free' price for the 135mm was around £950 I believe (can't remember exact price). I can't remember what they were charging for the 85mm. But the prices seemed kind of close enough to reasonable web prices that I was tempted. Sonystyle UK website has the 135mm for £1089 incl VAT and w...

Re: Bought the SAL-135F18Z

2 Things ps Frangipani flowers in the UK? who would have thought, and I think the Hibiscus is tropical as well...then again you might not have photographed them in the UK anyway, come to think of it. Greg sorry forgot to say yes they are tropical - we were on a tropical island off Kenya near Lamu. M...

Re: Bought the SAL-135F18Z

Thanks for the nice comments I do have one very sharp (I think) photo at 1.8 of my wife's eye which I may get round to posting at some point purely for the demonstration of this lens rather than any aesthetic value. Greg - they would have sold me the 85 from the camera but in a busy airport shop it ...

Re: England - Australia at Twickenham 16th Nov

Thanks for the comments. I like the way 'most' of the players are all concentrating on the ball so much. Also I have to admit without some noise reduction and using the raws perhaps, if cropped the jpgs I used might not look so hot. Also given the light levels I think I really needed a faster lens, ...

Bought the SAL-135F18Z

I was actually after the 85mm but the SonyStyle shop at Heathrow T5 didn't have one of those (had practically everything else though) including an 85mm on an a900 to play with - very nice. Still I expect I will learn to like the zeiss 135mm here are some of my first shots with it http://farm4.static...

Re: A700 settings for Beach wedding photos

Cool thanks all for the advice, unfortunately I won't be able to scope the place out too much in advance, maybe the few days before hand, which I will do. I want to look into Zone Matching a little more - I understand there is a good tutorial on it on dyxum but that site has been down for me for som...

Have you ever been stopped by police or security?

In the UK some of my friends and I have often been approached by over zealous police and security. Being nice always helps and to be honest its not worth making a fuss. A recent article gives some detail on the clear lack of direction police are given on the subject. http://www.theregister.co.uk/200...

Re: A700 settings for Beach wedding photos

where in this world? I mean, your beach face south, north, west? what time is the ceremony? the party will be in the beach too? Any falsh for fill-in and/or main light? I think Zone Matching will be a better help than DRO for recovering detail on the white dress (the Bride will be wearing a white d...

A700 settings for Beach wedding photos

Just wondering what some of you might suggest for settings on A700 for shooting wedding photos on a beach. Hopefully it will be sunny and bright. I was thinking that DRO might be of use, or is it better to leave all settings standard/default and post process the RAW files? Also I have 28-75 f2.8 tam...

Re: My Sony Alpha A700 Took a DUMP Already!!

It sounds like there is a gulf of difference between Sony service depending on where you are. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I had a good experience with Sony service in the UK and hence my perception of reliability and QOS is somewhat different. In general in the UK, I believe Sony is perceived as...
