Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

I got my A99 II with a double discount - a dealers Black Friday sale was on at the same time as Sony was having a distributors sale. But given the price of the present A7R IV and any future A99 III, they have definitely priced themselves out of my pay grade.

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

I bought my A99 II for two reasons - It was available on special at a time when the A7R III was on back order and because I still have a collection of A mount lenses. Plus even though I do own the Sony EA 3 and 4 and the Metabones and Sigma EF adapters I prefer to " go native " as it could...

Re: Future of A mount

I do make a few video diary type recordings now and then with my cameras, just like I do on my iPhone. But that's it, it's an extra which some people use and some don't. Very few of the video clips which I thought were interesting at the time get much in the way of replay and end up being deleted wh...

Re: Future of A mount

Have you seen the size comparisons of the new lenses on SonyAlphaRumors ? But I agree that Sony design of its APS-C just don't cut it for me even when not using long or heavy lenses. Even my old Minolta 100-300 APO siting on my reserve bench is not that convenient to use. As I only have APS-C lenses...

Re: Future of A mount

The only Sony APS-C that I ever owned was the NEX 7, and I have gone on record that I can't stand the general form of the Sony cameras. They just give me a fit of the fumbles. Which is why I am at the present time the proud owner of Fujifilm X-T2 ( for now ) and X-T3 cameras even though doing this d...

Re: "Mythical Lenses"

Everyone sees the world through their own perspective and choices. I tend to spend my indulgence money sometimes on camera equipment and at other times on a rather peculiar set of Hi Fi. I also spend holiday time in shortish visits to just 1 - 2 areas rather than going on grand tours. Also these day...

Re: Future of A mount

I did not like and still do not like the Sony APS-C cameras as much as I tried to like them. Now DK went for Olympus, I went for a four lens Fuji outfit and which apart from the 50 - 140 zoom fit into a pretty small bag. My major purchase for the year was the newish X-T 3 at the recent Fuji sale at ...

Re: "Mythical Lenses"

I have kept quite a few of my older Minolta / Konica Minolta / Sony A mount lenses as I still have Minolta *7 film camera and a A99 II. There is not a lot of demand locally for these without the problems of international postage and its a mainly Canikon second hand market marketplace  At the m...

Re: A99-2

I have had the Minolta 80-200 HS for a quite a number of years but have only had the Sony A99-2 for a few weeks ( end of financial year sale on current stock with 20% discount ). Most of the time I have been using the Sigma 24-105 zoom and the 70-400 as well, usually with with DXO Photo Lab. Usually...

Re: GAS is back - Sony FE 100 STF

I bought a Sigma A mount 24-105 some 12 months ago at half the price ( actually a little less ) for the new FE lens. With its bulk and weight it is better balanced on A mount cameras than on the A7R II, but when I need a one lens solution it works fine. Having had the old Minolta 85 / 1.4 and the 10...

Re: Sony announces new A9 in New York....

Colour is pretty much all in the mind and what is "correct" can also be affected by cultural preferences even before colour photography ever existed. All in all, Sony is probably more technically correct in its colour representations, just not what Fuji, Canon, Nikon et al present. Contras...

Re: Sony announces new A9 in New York....

But for a number of years even though the Canon hardware was plateauing they managed to keep most of their market from getting too disgruntled by all manner of software tweeks and ruses. Their market share indicates that they make the most of their captive audience together with incentives to retail...

Re: Sony announces new A9 in New York....

No, but it is more than likely to be very selective commentary from DPR especially. To me what they were proclaiming basically isn't of much relevance, particularly for this type of camera. What does that show ? You can't have everything all at once ! Just my opinion of course but most pot...

Re: Sony announces new A9 in New York....

It is not as if DPR hasn't got form for picking a single point and running with it for far more than its worth on any logical scheme of things. Missing is a comparison with the higher end Canon and Nikon cameras under the same conditions. And personally I do wonder whether for a sports photographer,...
