Re: Big Beercan or Tamron 70300 Di for A900?

Thanks David! That's just what I was looking for. The only thing that really nags at me is how good the bokeh is on the Big Beercan (and even more on the 100-400mm). I think I'll end up buying the Tamron when I have time. It won't be used a lot, but I figure I should have something past 180mm on the...

Big Beercan or Tamron 70300 Di for A900?

Hey all, I had the 70-300mm G for a bit (again) and couldn't justify it's price, so I returned it to the seller (everybody was happy). Now, I'm going back and forth between these two lenses and cannot decide. They're roughly the same price. I've owned the Big Beercan before, but my copy was full of ...

Re: Just for fun: 20,000 pixel pano with the 28-135mm...

Thanks all. This is obviously more of a technical showcase than any kind of well done pano :D I really did a quick and dirty job on both the picture taking and the stitching. I'm really going to put some time and effort into my next attempt. I did the math, and it will actually be about EIGHTY shots...

Just for fun: 20,000 pixel pano with the 28-135mm...

Went up to the top of the Space Needle today and took some quick shots for a pano. I was sloppy and it was crazy busy up top. 10 pictures taken with the 28-135mm and the A900 at 28mm. The stitching software can only do so much, but it's worth checking out for the unreal detail this combo delivers. T...

Going for that "film feel" with the A900.....

I've been really enjoying DxO filmpack as of late. Here's a series from a recent trip to San Juan Island. Most of these were processed with the Kodachrome 25 or 64 color profile. Also, is my little watermark at the bottom overkill? I have to admit, I was pretty proud of these when I finished, so I j...

Re: Rumor or Real - Sony HD 720P & Touchscreen

This excited me to no end today! I seriously considered picking up a used D90 just to mess about with a 50mm f/1.8 shooting HD video. I've held off on picking up a camcorder for sometime now in hope of a Alpha HD dSLR. In body IS would be the icing on the cake. Please Sony, do this!

Re: Which wide angle lens should I buy for my a900

I actually did a wee little writeup on the Sigma 15-30mm EX DG IF not too long ago: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1853 It's around $350-400 used and performs exceptionally well on the A900. I'm quite positive the Zeiss is better in almost every regard, but it's worth c...

That would be great. I'll put in dyxum review raving about that "classic q-shaped Minolta bokeh" and get endless PMs about how to achieve such a thing.

Re: Will this chip be a problem on the a900?

Yeah, I suppose the "how did it get chipped" question is prudent, but this seller is excellent and he claims the lens is functionally perfect. I'm going for function, not a collectors item, so the chip (to me) isn't worth $200-400. I also thought that I'd be shooting at f/2 90% of the time...

Will this chip be a problem on the a900?

So I bought this lens

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 2761.l1259

just now and am wondering if this chip will be an issue on FF. I wouldn't normally buy something like this, but it's over $300 less than any other 85mm I could find.

Re: Sigma 15-30mm EX IF: a great WA full-frame value

Hey, thanks docmaas! I'll give Sigma a call this week. I bought this used, but hopefully they'll be cool about it. I've got the original case and stuff. That sure sucks it ruined all these pics from the church, but you live and learn.

Welcome to photoclubalpha! Great first post!

Oh, almost forgot: for more picks with A900 + 28-135mm, here's everything I've posted to flickr with this combo. I'll be adding to this in the next day or two: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=28-135mm+a900&w=24281925%40N02&s=rec" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Here's...

Minolta 28-135mm on full-frame. A quick and dirty review..

So, I guess I'm just kind of throwing out these little reviews on lenses I own on the a900. There isn't a lot of FF info on many of these and I was pretty shocked by the performance of many..... So, the "secret handshake" is pretty widely known in the A-mount world as being a stellar (if s...

Re: Beercan + A900 model shoot......

Hi all, This was a "group shoot" so there were about 50 photogs there greedily shooting away. I would agree she wasn't terribly.... "lifelike", but she was quite nice and stood in front of a sea of lenses on her every move. Really not a huge fan of model shooting, but it was inte...
