Trade 350 for 550?
I ran into a small windfall when work decided to pay a bonus this year. It was not expected, but always appreciated! Anyway, I am thinking about trading in my 350 and picking up a 550. I mostly do landscape photography with the 350, frequently stitching, but I also do family outings and horse events...

Re: What lenses do you use?
I bought a 28-135/4-4.5, 50/1.4 and 70-210/4 in expectation of buying an Alpha 900. My financial situation changed and I got an Alpha 350 instead w/ kit lens. I more recently purchased a Sigma 20/1.8 for indoor available light event shooting. I use the 50/1.4 often for indoor portraits, the beercan ...

Re: Please help me contact Sony
Well they fixed it.
It was weird, they shipped it back, repaired after telling me they were not going to fix it without $300.
All's well that ends well, I guess. . .

Please help me contact Sony
I need some help. Does anyone have a phone number for someone at Sony that they know personally I can call and talk to about a service issue and get it resolved? I'm at the end of my rope with Sony and their standard "customer service" and "customer relations" department. Please ...

CIPA Forecast
Someone in Japan is dreaming. Sounds like a NAR forecast of housing market activity!
We've just entered Great Depression 2.
My prediction: 35% YOY drop in 2009, followed by another 25% drop each of the next 2 years.

Thanks Don and David.
Good info. I'm gonna download some Alpha 300 and 350 RAWs and see what I can do with them.

Alpha 300/350 as companion to Alpha 900?
I'm getting ready to order my Alpha 900. Probably will go grey-market and save $700 over the US prices at the risk of no warranty. Christmas Eve and Christmas day I shot all day long with the Sony R1. I was using 24mm (equiv), f/2.8 and ISO 800 (some) and ISO 1600 (mostly). I used the LCD to frame e...

Re: Civility
Thanks Paulo.
I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. I've never done that before on any forum I've been a part of. Unfortunately it appears that some people have no interest in being civil. And so the deed is now done. . .

Civility
I would like to invite all of the participants on David's very interesting forum here to conduct ourselves with civility and respect for one another. We can't change the past, but we can change how we act and react toward one another from now forward. Life's too short to do otherwise. . . Peace and ...

Re: Definitive A900/D3X noise/ISO samples
Don, What David is claiming is that you should be able to get similar results from the Sony by turning down the ISO and then underexposing 1, 2, 3 or more stops, and then bring them up in post processing. He is claiming that this is the strategy that Nikon is using (less on-chip amplification and mo...

Re: Definitive A900/D3X noise/ISO samples
Not sure that I follow you 100% David. But sounds like you might be on to something. . . Looking forward to seeing the "part 2" article on the noise comparison where you elaborate on these latest comments with some visual aids and some pictures. It's good to know that the 14 bit vs. 12 bit...

Don, All full sized images are on my site under the ++ symbol. BTW the links you posted will turn into a pumpkin at midnight. . . Use the "permalink" icon for permanent links to my images, the gallery links shuffle around once per day. . . Also about 1/2 were from other cameras than the R1...

Re: Really Right Stuff L plate for Sony Alpha 900
My experience with Arca-Swiss ballheads consists of a photo trip to the Smokies in April of 2005. Our small group had day-hiked about 3 miles, mostly uphill, to the hidden jewel of White Oak Sink. The most heavily-laden of our group was carrying a Nikon film SLR system in a full-sized backpack with ...
