Sigh :(

So just like the A2XX and A3XX series, the A500 and A550 models are snap-shooter's toys rather than photographer's tools.

Re: New addition

Ouch. Well I just shot 1/2 a roll of film with an alkali cell in there. Maybe you're lucky, and the alkaline cell is not too fresh. It will drop its voltage during its useful lifespan, so during a certain period of time the actual voltage can be close enough to 1.35 V. And if you're using colour ne...

Re: I have got to get me one of these!

The Manual Focus Live View mode is mirror lockup, in effect. Well, that's the question. It seems only natural ... but did you actually try it? For example, the Nikon D90 will flip the mirror down and up before taking the shot when firing the shutter in live-view mode. From the specs, I really like ...

Re: New addition

Just picked up a MD Rokkor 135 mm f/2.8 for 20 bucks. Is it the four-element or the five-element version? Either way, it's a great lens, both clearly better than the seven-element Minolta AF 135 mm 1:2.8 (which is no slouch to begin with). ... the fella found the camera he used it on and he gave th...

Re: Do I really need an a900?

I was more concerned about eye relief. The following excerpt from the DPReview is why: "... The eye relief is a little tight (you need to get pretty close to see the entire engulfing view ..." I am wearing weak-strength eye-glasses, and when shooting I usually take them off (I can do fair...

Re: Challenge 14: "So Green Is My Valley..."

The valley of pylons. It actually is not a valley really; it just looks so due to the compressed perspective of the 400 mm telephoto lens (actually of the long viewing distance that the telephoto lens brings along). http://www.ulrix-photo.de/res/pool/ou-4090823-013.jpg ______________________________...

Re: ACR 5.5 RC available on Adobe Labs

I've downloaded, installed and done some comparisons and viewed a bunch of files - it's definitely changed the colour conversion of Alpha files. Umm ... I don't know. With my A900 raw files, I can hardly see a difference. Sure, there is a difference, but it's so tiny that in order to notice I must ...

Re: and the winner is..........???????????????????????

Do you know how to get Lightroom to use ACR 5.5? No way. I installed it yesterday and CS4 picks it up but LR still uses 5.4 for some reason. The reason simply is this: Lightroom 2.4 is ACR 5.4 (and then some). You just have to wait for Lightroom 2.5; most likely it will be released at the same time...

Re: ACR 5.5 RC available on Adobe Labs

works on CS4 only, I guess... Sure. Since ACR 1.0, all ACR versions always worked with their respective Photoshop version only. Oh, this reminds me that I forgot something--- Adobe DNG Converter 5.5 Release Candidate also is available on Adobe Labs, for those who are not using Photoshop CS4. -- Olaf

Re: Tamron 17-50 - Comments sought after a comparative test

The Minolta AF 28-135 I discovered [...] it really suffers from flare. I may try a digitally-optimized filter to try and mitigate this. No filter can reduce flare or increase contrast - that's a Brooklyn myth. The lowest flare level will always be produced by a bare lens, with no filter fitted. Umm...

Here's another from the last week-end (the other I posted to Challenge #12). The nasal sound of those natural horns is truely intriguing. http://www.ulrix-photo.de/res/pool/ou-1090815-475r(720x540).jpg _________________________________________________________________ Sony A900, Sony SAL 70- 400 mm 1...

This week-end, I sure had my share of fresh air! Re: Sony Alpha 850 Waiting list in a German Photo store

Foto-Brenner is a genuine, serious, and reputable store. They are located in Weiden which is in the north-eastern part of Bavaria (Germany). I bought stuff from them in the past, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. Still, I would send no money to anyone, anywhere, for an announced produc...

Hawk's head quickly masked with Photoshop's Magnetic Lasso, then cloned out the offending twigs from the background with a large, soft-edged clone stamp. This took about ten minutes.
