Re: Lens for 850 & 900

Lenses carry markers in their names which indicate their image circle diameters. Basically the image circles are either large which makes the lens suitable for 35-mm full-frame format and for APS-C format both, or they are small which suits APS-C format only. Small-format lenses carry these markers:...

There's a user forum for digital asset management in general and for iView MediaPro/Expression Media in particular.

Re: Minolta 100mm f/2

I waited for FF because APS-C was going to give me awkward magnified lens lengths. Umm ... I keep failing to understand why someone would call the shift of the angles of view "awkward." What's so "awkward" about it? It's just a bit of a shift, that's all. It's neither better nor...

Better ask the Epson gurus as this is not a Photoshop issue.

... and, just for the records, Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 and Adobe DNG Converter 5.5 also have been released in their 'Grand Master' versions now (for Mac/for Windows). For the last four weeks, ACR 5.5 was available in a beta version from Adobe Labs.

Re: TC micro AF adjustments on A900

I recently tried a Kenko 1.4X Teleplus Pro 300 DG (thanks David K) with my Sony 70-400 G SSM on the A900. It does autofocus with this, however I have noticed that micro AF adjustment required is -20. The lens on its own needs -5 AF adjust [...]. Can anyone explain why the AF adjust is so radically ...

Re: Bellows

AFAIK, there are no Alpha mount bellows ... I am not aware of any ... The Novoflex Auto Macro Bellows BALMIN-AF is a fully coupled automatic bellows with electrical contacts and also a system of extending aperture control rods - quite an engineering feat. Oh yes, the Novoflex BALMIN-AF ... didn't t...

Re: Bellows

AFAIK, there are no Alpha mount bellows ... I am not aware of any ... fortunately we don't need them anyway. ... so are we restricted to use only with adapters, i. e. Alpha to M42 screw mount, then the bellows and then a non-Alpha-mount lens. Exactly. Alpha-mount lenses are not very useful on a bel...

Re: FOREVER FRIENDS

Every time I look at pictures taken with the 70-400 ... I get depressed. I desperately need that 70-400 ... Except that Gustav used a 70-200 mm lens here, not 70-400 mm. That said, the SAL-70400G definitely is worth a depression indeed when not owning it ;) Regarding Gustav's triptych---it's fascin...

Re: A850 your advice would be appreciated

While at A3 print size the A850/A900 won't be able to unfold its full potential, you'll still be able to see a difference in favour of the larger format. However the difference would be subtle and noticable only upon careful inspection with a knowing eye---similar to the difference between A3 prints...

Re: DXO

BTW, DxO is recognizing the 50/2.8 macro as 50/2.8-3.5 (or it's that the macro 50/2.8 is becoming f/3.5 at short distances?) In various places on the Internet, the information is floating around that the Minolta AF Macro 50 mm 1:3.5 and (some versions of) the Minolta AF Macro 50 mm 1:2.8 were shari...

Re: Is there a right way to..

If you have the field of view (in degrees) and the distance, then I suppose you could do some math with sinus and cosinus ... No, it's way easier than that; no trigonometry required. All you need is the Theorem of Intersecting Lines---which is nothing but the geometrical version of the Rule of Thre...

Re: 550 v 700

The question is whether to go for the A700 at the excellent prices presently being charged or wait a few weeks for the A550 now that model's specs are announced. The advantages of the A550 over the A700 are 7-fps speed-priority mode and manual-focus-check live-view mode. The advantages of the A700 ...
