Re: A55 review now up

Thanks for the table Neonsquare. I have to admit that this flash/shutter lag issue is preventing me pressing the "Buy" button. Imaging Resource don't have any shutter delay with flash info for the A900, so I'm unable to compare. Do you think this is a Firmware issue or a Hardware one, as I...

Re: A new lens or a new camera?

Re GPS. DK wrote in his A-55 review "The camera didn't just save time in keywording and captioning images, GPS gave me named locations I could not find on any tourist map." This is a good point, so perhaps I'l become a GPS convert yet! Richard wrote "If you can try both the A-55 and t...

Re: A new lens or a new camera?

I have no doubt you will get better results either from the A580 or A55 used with the Sigma. Thanks David, I'm rather pleased you think that as the A55 has some other advantages for me. I'm no wildlife photographer but the ISO advantage might means that I can use higher shutter speeds on my tripod ...

A new lens or a new camera?

I haven't been around for a long while but I'm still enjoying using A900 and the images it produces. I have a Sigma 100-300mm f4 but need a longer lens now and then. I'm considering the 500mm f8 mirror lens or adding a 2x converter. But then I read David's excellent review of the A55 and, given the ...

Re: DxO Optics Pro now supports A900

Hi Bob, Firstly, let me point out that I am no expert and usually refrain from getting involved in forum pixel peeping. However, now I have my new A900 I'm trying to find the best RAW processor. IQ comes first, workflow second for me. Raw Therapee opens images without any adjustments and the histogr...

Re: DxO Optics Pro now supports A900

Hi picman, Can you send me the RAW file, or upload it somewhere? Although the noise is well controlled by CO, the image looks really flat. I imagine that the DxO image would be nicer to look at print size. Is the image correcetly exposed? Are you trying to pull detail out of deep shadows? It's hard ...

Re: DxO Optics Pro now supports A900

I had been pleased enough with the files from Raw Therapee and Capture One and didn't have a lot of enthusiasm for trying DxO. Well, I'm glad I did! I'm getting much better results with DxO on my A900 images, there's more "pop" and they seem cleaner somehow. I guess a lot of it is down to ...

Re: Really Right Stuff A 900 L-Plate now shipping

How does the L-plate mount the camera vertically with the cord in place? David I had to pare back about 1mm of rubber on the Remote Cord to allow that. As I said though, I only have a cheap cord, not a Minolta/Sony one. The L-plate/tripod head puts no pressure on the cord so there is no strain on t...

Can the L-plate be used with a remote release cord attached? -- Olaf Hi Olaf, I now have my RRS L-Plate and yes, you can use it with the Remote Cord attached. I have a cheap cord, not a Sony one and I needed to pare back the rubber a little (not shown in photo) so that the camera can be mounted ver...

Re: Scotland this winter

Lovely pictures David. I really like the second one, the ice detail shot. The colours and shapes are fascinating. I only live a few miles away from Loch Leven but I've never seen it like that! I headed up to the Cairngorms for a few days last week and haven't seen snow like it for years. This was fr...

Re: Hi from Scotland

One of my favourite areas not represented yet on your site was Orkney. So, perhaps we can look forward to some A900 images from there :D ? Hi Birma, Thanks for the welcome :D Orkney is just one of the many areas missing from my portfolio. I won't be going there this year, but maybe next. First day ...

Re: Pricing question

Nice picture. No, don't give it away for free, the publisher is selling the book and you should sell a license for your image. You could try using the price calculator on Alamy as a starting point. Just pick any image and price it according to the details given to you by the design studio. There is ...

There's a couple of images here at the RRS site. Access for the remote cable looks OK. I hope so anyway, because if not, I'll be sending it back!

I'll let you know when mine arrives.
