Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I've been a user of LR since version 2 (and currently subscribe to LR/PS), as it covered my basic needs better than Photoshop which I used before. Subsequent editions added features which I found valuable (lens correction, local edits, etc.), but this has tapered down in recent years (e.g. very limi...

Re: Sony A-99 11

I've been a faithful Minolta AF (9000,7xi, 600xi) and then Sony A (200,700,900) user, but am not convinced that the A mount is going to stay for very long, given the lack of new lenses being released... Bodies are one thing, but we need lenses to go with them, and the a 42MP body is quite demanding,...

Re: How wide is wide enough?

I bought a sigma 12-24 from DK a few years ago, but am not using it much as it is really a niche lens.

I do enjoy the odd panorama using stitching with Lightroom. It is a convenient substitute which doesn't add any weight!

Re: Vuescan?

I'm pleased with Vuescan Pro and my Minolta Dimage Elite F-2900 scanner. The interface is more 'Windows XP' than 'Windows 10' but it works reliably and I see features /new scanners added regularly Documentation leaves a bit to be desired, but Sascha Steinhoff's 'The Vuescan Bible' is an OK beginner'...

Re: lens Choice

While I also own an A900 (with 24-85mm and 28-135mm lenses, among others), I find the A700 with the CZ16-80mm to be a better travel combination, as it is lighter, has a built-in flash/controller and as a single lens covers most of my needs. I'd guess the CZ16-80mm would also work with the A77MKII, b...

This could have been a lens for a Super 8 camera, or similar device (using one of the other lenses to measure exposure. I'm not sure why a third lens with sensor would be needed

Re: A7R II

If Sony were to introduce an "EA-5" adapter allowing AF for screw drive lenses without a translucent mirror -which I hope they'll do,- there would be little need for a new A99 in my view... We shall see!

Re: Sony 7r

The reception that the new Fuji camera is getting on dpreview is enlightening. While it looks nice, this new camera is not miles away from the A7/A7r, albeit with an APS sensor, but initial reactions are much more positive. Some vocal people on this thread are resorting to name-calling Sony as a 'ga...

Re: Scanning Torture (or Learning to Love Your Digital Camer

Bakubo, Given that I have the same scanner as you do, and use the same software, let me know via PM if you're interested in the calibration profiles I've created for various types of slide films (basically the full set of coloraid.de + Kodachrome ITU targets). The raw files target should be of most ...

Re: choosing a monitor

In my experience a Dell or equivalent IPS monitor (I'm typing this on a Dell U2311H) is enough to get started. You may also be able to borrow some calibration equipment and then would basically be all set.

Re: choosing a monitor

You may want to consider some calibration equipment (for instance a colormunki display) and some software (such as Lightroom 4 or newer) which will emulate your printer's capabilities to optimise the match between what you see on your monitor and what comes out of your printer (assuming you're using...

Re: Found a loose 28-70mm FE

The French magazine, Le Monde de la Photo has a test of this lens in French (http://www.lemondedelaphoto.com/TEST-SONY-28-70-mm-FE-f-3-5-5-6,8943.html), using the DXO test suite. For what it's worth, JMS, the tester, is a well respected author and knows his stuff. Basically results are excellent on ...

Re: Colour Temp.

You may want to consider the X-Rite ColorChecker passport and its associated software. I found it useful to get more accurate colours and, more importantly, consistency across cameras http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pantone-MSCCPP-X-Rite-ColorChecker-Passport/dp/B002NU5UW8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384347...

Re: FF announced

There is always hope that Sony will see the light and make the digital equivalent of the 600si Classic (barebone without unnecessary gizmos old school body with great ergonomics and modern technology where it matters). Amusingly, the A700 and A900 had a lot in common with this camera, but technology...
