Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I've decided not to buy the A700--or the A350, for that matter. I'm going to buy an Olympus E-620 instead. Nothing wrong with the Sonys, I just like what I saw with the Olympus. Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I'll get more about my choice. Hey, at least I didn't buy another Canon or go with a N...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I guess I don't know enough about digital photo frames to comment properly. I didn't realize you could stuff them full of pix to show people. That's a pretty cool idea.
God, am I getting old, or what? I never thought I'd see technology pass me by, but in the digital photography realm I guess it has.

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
Our light in Scotland is not so good in winter, and I get hardly any use out of the 500mm f8. In fact the only time I would use it would be for donut bokeh off sparkling water at sunset etc - one of my favourite FX. I find it next to useless for routine shooting, but I got it cheaply from an eBay s...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
The 500 mirror is a good lens basically used in good light only... When you say good light only, what exactly does that mean? Not so good and dawn and dusk I can see, but does the sun have to be out? If it's midday on a cloudy, gray day, will it work okay? Where I live--south shore of Lake Erie--th...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I can't remember who said it, but one of you suggested I look at Sony's 500mm lens for bird shooting. I read the reviews on it on dyxum.com and they seemed pretty darned positive, but I had one question. What the hell is a "bokeh?" Several reviewers mentioned it. Is that a British word us ...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I know it probably sounds like a bad idea, but I'd like to have one lens I can carry almost all the time. Seems like a 70-300mm would be way too tight at the lower end. Isn't that the equivalent of a 105mm lens on a 35mm? The old Nikon 105mm was the world's greatest portrait lens, but it's too tight...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
Why do I need to repeat myself! I just said HELL NO! The LENS HAS WORKED PERFECTY for me AND I USE HIGH SPEED FOCUS AND MY COPY HAS DELIVERED FAITHFULLY FOR FOUR YEARS! -Sonolta Sorry. Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I owned that Tammy 28-300XR and it was a decent lens, but it was clearly optically inferior to the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. The 28-300 is also really slow, f6.3 at the long end, and it is also a really slow focuser and poor tracker, so don't expect the easiest bird photos with it...especially mov...

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
I like Sigma lenses but someone told me their zooms--especially the 70-300--has been problematic because of plastic gears that break or strip. Any take on that?Sonolta wrote:I owned that Tammy 28-300XR and it was a decent lens, but it was clearly optically inferior to the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro.

Re: Is the A700 right for me?
Do not underestimate the A350. First of all, with birding the extra megapixels are like having a further 1.2X teleconverter compared to the A700 - or a 1.4X compared to the A200... The important issues with the A350 are its relatively small viewfinder, though for her it's identical to the Canon so ...

Is the A700 right for me?
I've been emailing with one of your members--he recommended I join these forums--about my camera wants and needs and he's pretty much got me talked into an A700, but I wanted to run the question by some others to see if they agree. I actually was looking to spend about $600 or less on a body, but I ...
