Re: "Mythical Lenses"

Interesting feedback. Question is though, does the 24-70mm live up to expectations optically? We are talking about the Sony/Zeiss, right? Well, I didn't "see" the difference on the A900. In other hand, on the A7R (36M) and the A7RIII (42MP), I definitely see there is something special abo...

Re: Future of A mount

That thing is never going to happen. That thing was digital. The Zeiss ZX1 is a really interesting concept, but too big and I'm not sold on the all-cloud solution (there is a discussion about it here, right?). I saw the prototype last October, I think it still needed a lot of work -that's probably ...

Re: "Mythical Lenses"

KM did use some Tamron's like the 28-75mm F2.8, which Sony copied, added a SAM motor, and increased the price..cough. I've not tried that either. I never used the Tamron version but I remember a lot of complains about the mechanics, many returns... I had the KM version, that I liked very much. Real...

Re: "Mythical Lenses"

Minolta/Sony 20mm F2.8 Another prime I toyed with getting, but it was costly on the Sony badge - prices on the Minolta version seem fairly good now I had two copies of this lens. The first one was poor: even the KM 17-35 performed better at 20mm than the prime. The second copy (the one I have now) ...

Re: Future of A mount

I think Sony have scored an own goal with the E mount system, the market is shrinking for E mount because of cost... The market is shrinking. Period. Canon and Nikon are not doing better. Cellphones are "good enough" for what most people need. More resolution is always good, but 61 MP is ...

Re: Future of A mount

Carl Garrard (some may know him or remember him) wrote about the A-mount today. Sony A-Mount: Single Lens Translucent is Still Relevant https://photographic-central.blogspot.com/2019/05/sony-mount-single-lens-translucent-is.html?m=1 Carl always wanted to be a Sony prophet. A-mount is dead. Or almos...

Re: Sony a77iii rumor

Don't hold your breath: no resources on A-mount, cameras or lenses, for a while.
We'll be really lucky if we see a new A77/A99 camera in the future.

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

You are correct. The free version is Capture One Express for Sony, and it is actually quite good for a free program, IMO. Additional features are available with the paid upgrade to the full version. However, if you get the version that works only with Sony cameras, the license fee for the full vers...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

Well, you are wrong on both counts. :) You sound like my wife :? I mostly shoot raw and have for about the last 13 years or so. I occasionally shoot some things in jpeg depending on the occasion and subject. Certainly for all my massive travel photo collection they are raw. Definitely the best choi...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I wrote a lot to Adobe about the problems with the latest LR, especially the speed of the LR (6. * 7. *), I was on Adobe webinar, asked about the speed of LR, they answered that they are working on this problem, but after almost 2 years, nothing new has been done in this direction. Again, this is a...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I don't need extensive catalogue options, but I do need to be able to add and browse files quickly making adjustments that are saved on the fly. So any other suggestions free or paid I'll consider any help appreciated. If you don't need a strong catalog option, and you are only editing Sony raw fil...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

1. The base file is not touched. The edits are just a list of commands that are stored and in real-time displayed. You can add to them, change them, undo them, etc. at will forever and none of it affects the base file. I was about to tell you that using "sidecar" xml instead of storing al...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I always liked the software still on version 5 as I felt the need to update was not really there for me on V6. With the recent news of Adobe putting LR as subscription only (from 2018 no more updates to 6), and no more stand alone versions. For me the creative cloud subscription just doesn't work, ...

Re: Blurb B&W photo books

Just read this thread. Very interesting. I have had 2 color books made by Blurb and was happy with the results. Until reading this thread I had not noticed the "dots" and nobody else had commented. I guess with color they are much less obvious than in your first B&W. Anyway, just so y...
