Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
I read an article about the best sharpening (sorry I don't remember where it was) by a couple of photographers. They compared several 3rd party sharpeners, plugins and standard USM. The consensus was that Focus Magic was the best. Looking over the images, I agreed with them, so I purchased it. I th...

Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
1. I used a level of 2 on Focus magic (the same level I use for the 70-200G...I use a 4 or 5 for my Tamron 200-500). I'd say it is as sharp at these apertures as the 70-200G (mind you that i have used this lens for all of 15 min.) I didn't know that Focus Magic could be used for routine sharpening....

Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
Few comments with your permission: 1- Very nice bird shots, but may I ask how much sharpening on PP? Or is the lens that sharp? 2- In my opinion I think the knob for fixing the tripod collar on the Tamron is much much better than the Sony ones. It should be much easier tightening/loosening the Tamr...

Re: 70-400G in Atlanta
No problem linking to Dyxum, but why not link the images to a post here? I often ignore posts which only contain links, not images, and I am sure many others do. If you don't see the image directly on opening the post, it's not as interesting. David Alright...will do. http://TKunkel.zenfolio.com/im...

70-400G in Atlanta
David...I hope you don't mind, but I will link to Dyxum instead of re-posting this here. This link will show a visual comparison to the 70-200G and the Tamron 200-500 as well as a couple images taken at the feeder. I am heading off to Florida on Saturday for a bit of birding and I will post along th...

LensAlign
Has anyone checked this out: http://www.rawworkflow.com/lensalign/ This seems like it will once and for all answer the questions about front focus/back focus. What I wonder, is how useful this info will be if it is discovered that an A700 has BF/FF with a few lenses. How would you adjust the combina...

BF/FF test methodology
For readers here that do not normally visit Dyxum. I have posted on that site with a test of a problem I think I might have. I initially thought I had a BF/FF problem with my A700 especially with my Sony 50 1.4. Today I received a second A700 (Excellent condition floor model for $405). I thought a s...

Re: Tamron SP 200-500/5-6,3 Di LD IF
Here is one from the 5D: 1/320 (tripod) ISO 400, f/6.3, 500mm http://tkunkel.zenfolio.com/img/v0/p305166-4.jpg Calpon, this shot is superb with all those detail. How could you say this lens is barely usable wide open? Is this a cropped image? Kelvin, I guess I went a little overboard with that stat...

Re: Tamron SP 200-500/5-6,3 Di LD IF
Calpon, those are nice shots. For handheld shots, they are great. If you have a shot with the lens wide open and high shutter speed, do post it. It would be interesting to see the result. :) Here is one from the 5D: 1/320 (tripod) ISO 400, f/6.3, 500mm http://tkunkel.zenfolio.com/img/v0/p305166-4.j...

Re: Tamron SP 200-500/5-6,3 Di LD IF
I have the lens and have used it on a KM5D and now the A700. I have said many times that I believe this is the best lens for 500mm at the price. It is usable wide open (barely) at f8 it is great. With our SSS in body and V4 for the A700, this combination is just incredible. This was taken this morni...
