Re: Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical

Hi Greg, thanks for the suggestion but it looks like it is solid plastic under the zoom ring rubber. I'll get in touch with the UK distributor and see what they suggest.

Cheers,

Ant.

Re: Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical

I've also been happy with my copy of the 17-50mm until recently when it feels like the teeth have been stripped on the zoom ring, so that it lens is difficult to zoom in and out.

I'm in the UK, does anyone have any experience of getting Tamron lenses repaired?

Cheers,

Ant.

I was a student at the time, great to see your shots of the island, I must try and revisit it at some point.

Re: La Palma 2012

I can identify the telescopes, the first is the Nordic Optical Telescope and the second is the William Hershel telescope. I had the chance to use the Issac Newton Telscope up there once for a week back in 1993!

Re: Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 - damage?

Yep, I had the same issue and fixed it as suggested. I had a second issue when the lens fell out of my pocket - the zoom ring became stuck, a bit of effort freed it up, but now it is out of position with respect to the focal length markings. At least it still works (but in the exif it only reports a...

Re: Question on low light A580 vs A77 (resampled?)?

Thanks David for your reply, your thoughts were very useful. I think I am leaning towards getting a A580 as my lowlight option and keep the A700 for everyday duty, then look at the A77 again when the prices drop or even the A99!

Question on low light A580 vs A77 (resampled?)?

Hi all, I progressed from a 6MP KM 5D to a 10MP A100 (after the 5D hit the ground) and suffered the increase in noise and then to the 12MP A700 to improve the noise situation. I take mainly HDR and low light (ISO 3200 or 1600 - astrophotography) shots. So some years on the 24MP A77 comes out with no...

Royal International Air Tattoo

Last week saw the Royal International Air Tattoo take place at RAF Fairford. The weather was bit hit and miss which made for some interesting skies. Taken with A700, 1 & 3 with Sony 500mm F/8 Reflex, 2 with Sony 70-300 G SSM. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6123/5951471069_657152c52c_b.jpg Turkis...

Live from Jodrell Bank - music event

A couple of weeks back the first Jodrell Bank Live gig, headlined by The Flaming Lips took place, with a stage set up next to the Lovell Radio Telescope. Here are 3 shots from the day. There are more on my website, link in signature. All are taken with the A700 and then the Sigma 10-20mm for the fir...

Re: Dance Workshop

Hi David, Yes some of the other members captured shots where her left leg is more extended as she leaves the ground. I used an e-bay Minolta to 'normal' hotshoe adaptor - a Pixel TF-325 and had the Skyport trigger in that. The flash was firing into a 2m 'parabolic' reflecting umbrella, to the left, ...

Dance Workshop

Hi all, I attended a studio dance photography workshop last weekend and thought I'd share a few of the results. Kit was a Sony A700 and Tamron 17-50mm. Lighting was 3 cheap flash guns fired into a 2m umbrella for the first shot and a Elinchrom Ranger Quadra for the next two. The workshop was run by ...

Re: Star trail photos

The individual shots were taken at ISO 160, 30s, but as it was a manual lens I do not have a record oft he aperture, most likely f/4.5 or so. All were done at the same settings.

Re: Star trail photos

Cheers Greg, Dr Harout. One technique to reveal the colours is to defocus the camera, hence spreading the light over a larger area and avoiding over saturating the pixels. One example of doing this is in this shot by David Malin (AAO) . Though of course this only works for the brighter stars, the fa...

Re: Star trail photos

The main problem you have with long exposures (over 30s) is from light pollution turning your skies orange and so loosing the faint stars. Plus the need to do a dark frame image with the lens cap on of the same length in order to remove hot pixels. The common trick now is the take many 30s exposures...
