Re: Tamron 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 DI-II LD (IF) Review

(...) but I would not swap my 11-18mm for it. The 11-18mm remains a technically good lens (drawing, illumination, type of geometry) which though not quite as sharp as the Sigma 10-20mm is much less prone to into-the-light flare. It also has less obvious geometric distortion because some attempt is ...

SAL70-400G Images

The day was somewhat dark, very windy and rainy, but the itch was too strong. So I went to a very low traffic dirty road to test the new toy... AF is by no means lightning fast, but certainly faster and more precise than Tammy 200-500. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3380/3342372752_03e567b80f_o.jpg ...

I'd gladly like to support you with your wish to see and read more civil and considerate messages on this particular forum... Does someone's output bother you? Re: LensAlign

An interesting gimmick, but so very expensive.
At $20-$40 I'd say it would quite profitably sell like hot bread, but as it is I suppose it will keep in the shelves for quite a while, as almost as efficient homebred equivalents can certainly be manufactured in almost no time at almost zero cost.

Photoshop 64 blues

Far as can be seen there is as yet no PS plugin that will operate on the editor's 64bit version. Some softwarehouses state they're busy developing updates/upgrades but too many seem to be simply disregarding the matter... As most of these plugins will work with PS CS4 32bit, it helps understand why ...

Re: MS Pro slot nonsense

As I see it we get no choice, neither on the A700 nor the A900. There's no option, is there?
We get two slots.
Seems foolish to me to left one unused, whatever reason. And that's it.

The final cut

Seems Mr. Kilpatrick's opinion regarding best settings for JPEGs on A900 (and, one'd gather, on A700) regarding minimal noise on high ISO are expressed in his last posting on this site's homepage: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2008/10/23/the-alpha-900-as-a-high-iso-body/ Actions do speak louder than...

Re: (From DPR) Best high ISO settings for A700

<...> Also, I must mention that your example with that hose shows a lot of small items/detail and as such is completely different from the universally-macro stuff posted by your opponent. <...> Agorabasta, glad you jumped in. I certainly wouldn't call Mr. Sonolta my opponent: I'm not fighting for a...

Re: (From DPR) Best high ISO settings for A700

Many of my attempts at image getting are related to bird captures, in flight or not. 1/1000 is usually my best bet and in an overcast day as when I took those pics, to achieve such shutter speed with my Tam 200-500, even wide opened, ISO6400 is called for. The shot with the hose was of a 'cave' unde...

Some (processed) samples

No concern for compo, these are some examples I got using agorabasta 's 'standard' settings and then editing the resulting JPEGs to fit my taste. I'd think some interesting range was covered. No manual camera adjustments; EXIF should tell the story... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3191/2964244696_1...

Re: (From DPR) Best high ISO settings for A700

 Mayhaps there's useful info in Mr. Sonolta's usual output, always LingOL and copiously pouring repetitive imagery. I don't know; too much noise for me to try braving some signal out of... But then it does bring to my mind the closing lines of Mr. Edgar Allan Poe's The Haunted Palace : Vast fo...

(From DPR) Best high ISO settings for A700

From a thread started by agorabasta — which translates as "enough now" in Portuguese, although that user's profile has him located at Russian Federation — a setting for the Alpha 700 that does make a difference when shooting high ISO. The settings: base mode 'standard', saturation +1, shar...

Re: I played with an A900 today

<...> The raw is genuinely windowed, cropped down, not like the 16:9 on the A700 where a full raw is captured but only part of it is seen by conversion programs. I advise buyers not to rush into it unless they know for sure the image size and full frame is a priority. My list of criticisms is growi...
