Re: DPreview topics

David, how does one read the posts in the DPreview forum - when I log in I am given a message that I don't have hte required permissions? Philip Hi Philip, I think David is trying to do a review on a D700 so he might be a bit preoccupied, however I think you will find it's in your security settings...

Re: Steer To The Left

When I first saw this shot I thought, yep not a bad capture, crisp and dramatic, exposed for the sky (nicely done) and thus the hill tree and steer all starkly silhouetted against the sky, nice job........the next time I saw it, it was more thought provoking ( that steer is looking at something..but...

Re: EOS 1000D and Nikon D700 in hand

I'm testing both of them this week - the 1000D has just gone back, replaced by the D700 this morning. If anyone wants any info or comments in due course, just ask. I will not post a review of these cameras on photoclubalpha, both articles will appear in the British Journal. David Hmm I wonder how t...

Re: Help! Why are some shots soft, some sharp?

The unsharpness does not look entirely like shake. The focus assist on the A700 using red light. This actually does shift the point of focus, as a quick test using a lamp coloured gels (red and blue) will show you. There may be a small focus error in the setup of the camera which is corrected by th...

Re: Anyone like pretty butterflies ?

Greg I like the colour of your butterfly, quite a span he has. Very kind of you to take him in. Thanks David, Lot's of people around here grow the special plant they like, but even so they are not very plentiful, there's a tree nesting tropical ant that likes too eat the caterpillars when they are ...

Re: Anyone like pretty butterflies ?

Butterflies are very very photogenic. I love them a lot. Even I try to plant such flowers climbers or the like which attract much of them. Have a look to the following pictures: 1- http://harmar.photoblogs.am/index.php?showimage=1612 2- http://harmar.photoblogs.am/index.php?showimage=1613 C&C w...

Anyone like pretty butterflies ?

This poor chap (male birdwing) was lying on the concrete in the carpark at work ,damaged and although sick was still alive and could even fly a short distance, (I think it fell out of someones grille/radiator), I took it home of course but it died overnight. Re: Click the link

Hi, I did click the link and had a look, there's lots of interesting photos there, fron cherry blossoms to birds, exotic street scenes and temples, I specially loved the ancient ruins and the B&W shots....thanks for the look. I did a little research on Armenia in Wikipedia as my knowledge is ver...

Re: Help! Why are some shots soft, some sharp?

Thanks all for the replies. It all makes sense, and is consistent with other comments I've received. I'll make adjustments... As David K has pointed out there is a good possibility that there is a focussing problem associated with the cameras' focus assist light, so it would be an interesting exerc...

Re: Help! Why are some shots soft, some sharp?

I agree with the others, i/8sec is too slow for 135mm and 200mm lenses even on a tripod, the 135mm will magnify the vibrations of the mirror slap by about 3.8 X more than than they already were, (while the shutter is open for a full 1/8sec), and the 200mm will magnify them by 5.7 X. By comparison th...

Re: Bokeh hooky pooky

When the topic of out-of-focus rendition, or 'bokeh,' first came up among photographers a few years ago, many refused to take it seriously. A good photograph has to be sharp, and who with a healthy mind would care about the appearance of the blurred parts in an image? Meanwhile most photographers u...

Re: 24-105 SSM f4 G ?

It seems to be a genuine leak but the 24-105mm is not 'visible' in the Sony databases which some people have got into (the 16-35mm and 70-400mm show up as item codes in the stock listings, the 24-105mm f/4 does not yet). There is a danger it will be a) £1000 b) take 77mm filters etc - I am waiting ...

24-105 SSM f4 G ?

Someone over at DPR claimed to have found evidence of the rumoured 24-105 f4 G lens, they/he had a copy of a "faxed" (recipient unknown) lens user guide phamplet (a photo of which was posted) and it did look authentic...must admit (otherwise I wouldn't waste my time), anyone heard anything...
