Re: Clone batteries and NEX-5n

There is a clone battery available in the USA that is claimed to be specifically for the NEX 5n. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... =fitbay-20
Has anyone in the UK tried this one? Or, for that matter, anyone anywhere tried it?

Re: Clone batteries and NEX-5n

I bought a spare battery for my nex 5n via. Amazon UK. It was shrink wrapped and definitely genuine Sony and cost £38 instead of £76. It worked fine for 2 weeks, then the camera said "incompatible battery". Repeated re-tries would not get it going again - very frustrating!! Amazon were bri...

Re: Macro 2012

Nice macro shot of snowdrop Birma. I have gone a bit more macro on one of my teaspoons - to show the hallmarks (they were made in 1895 in Sheffield). I have been trying my Tamron 90mm macro lens on my NEX 5n. The 5n is great for macro work because of the brilliant focus aids (focus peaking and focus...

Re: Macro 2012

Lovely ice crystals. This one is at least partially macro.

Re: Birds 2012

If Sony would add live view AND tethered capture, would that solve the problem? My A700 has tethered capture and my NEX 5n has live view but neither has both.
Could Sony add tethered capture as a firmware update to their NEX and SLT cameras?

Re: Birds 2012

Thank you Greg. Holly berries may be poisonous to people; I don't know if they are or not. Red is often a warning sign, as you say, but birds seem to love them. The redwings will strip the tree bare in a day or two.

P.S. Lucky you Mark, hope you get good shots with the 70-400G tomorrow.

Re: Birds 2012

Sorry, there is no such bird as a rewing. it is another redwing.

Re: Birds 2012

Thank you all for kind comments. Rewing eating holly berry was taken yesterday. Today it snowed and daylight is too poor for good photos.

Re: Birds 2012

Thank you Mark. You are right, of course. It is a redwing, not a fieldfare. Silly me.

Re: Birds 2012

Minus 5 degrees centigrade has brought fieldfare into my garden. They will strip the holly berries in no time.

Re: Birds 2012

Hi Mark,
Wow, you got some good shots today. Your first grey heron looks almost like a purple heron (Ardea purpurea). Goldcrests are very rare here so I envy you that one. Glad your missus approves!

Re: Birds 2012

Thank you Mark,
I don't find the small body/big lens combo. hard to handle. The lens attaches to the tripod and the body sits on the back like a rear lens cap!

Re: Birds 2012

Re. my fake bird comparison of A700 and NEX 5n bodies on 70-400G lens, I don't want to mislead anyone, so have repeated the comparison in good daylight (ISO 200 instead of IS0 3200). The difference is much less marked than before, though I still prefer the result from the 5n/LA-EA2 combo (attached)....

Re: Birds 2012

Re. comments on my fake bird comparison shots, it was the LA-EA2 adaptor, and yes battery drain is heavy. Also focus needs better light than it does with the A700/70-400 combo. Nevertheless, the NEX 5n/LA-EA2/70-400 combo seemed to capture the real feather detail better. The shutter speeds were not ...

Re: Birds 2012

As mentioned earlier, I'm looking forward to shooting bird photos with my 70-400G lens on my NEX 5n. Because the weather is still unsuitable, I've done a comparison of that lens with A700 and NEX 5n bodies. The model bird is about the same size as a real goldcrest or firecrest (Britain's smallest bi...
