Re: The future Alpha 99

@Barry Still arguing that Sony should do exactly what Canikon does? It still not a good idea regardless how often you repeat it. Sony did have some very good products in 2013 - the RX1, RX100II, RX10, A7, A7r were quite well received. I often met Canon/Nikon-Users having an RX100 or RX100II speaking...

Re: FF announced

I'd be surprised if the processing makes much difference or that Sony's processor is much different to Nikon I'm really curious about your... "argument". For years people tell that Nikons processing gets out more from Sonys sensors. Now it seems Sonys processing seems to be improved great...

Re: The future Alpha 99

Sony have their work cut out esp in Video. Canon dominate that segment I see very little chance for Sony here. Don't rule out Sony to fast here. The RX10 is a real strong competitor for video. Sony downscales whole frames off the 1"-Sensor and other features of the cam simply make this an extr...

Re: The future Alpha 99

@Atgets_Apprentice For what it's worth: I disagree with the statement of Apple products being mostly hype and over-rated. I'm using both generic PC and Windows and several Macs on a daily base the last 12 years. All my Macs (iMacs, MacBooks, Minis) are and were reliable and solid tools. (writing thi...

Re: The future Alpha 99

I have no idea if the dpr 45% click rate on the Df is/was valid or not, but like I say I have never seen another camera do that, there were a huge number of concurrent threads all maxing out within a day, when has a camera had seven or eight threads all going at the same time and all full of non-st...

Re: The future Alpha 99

I was amazed by the threads at dpr on the Df topic it even went as high a 45% of clicks and I don’t recall any camera doing that before, by comparison what did the A7-A7r generate? I think from memory they briefly touched around 12% but the Df went on and on for many days, near a week I think, pret...

Re: A7 crippled sensor?

If you take a look at some of the pictures of the new EF lenses you will see, that the back lens is sitting quite deep - so they already do this. There won't be any problem with native lenses on the A7 sensor or fwiw any adapted DSLR lenses.

Re: Going backwards - A580

@bakubo It actually depends: If you use a lens with stabilisation then the EVF actually is stabilized. While filming the EVF is also stabilized through either in body stabilisation (SSS) on older SLTs or a digital stabilisation using sensor crop (which actually works very very good on video). When s...

Re: A99 DXO prediction

Perhaps I'm understanding this wrong, but the difference actually seems to be the interpretation in RAW isn't it? @bakubo with which RAW-Converter did you do your tests? If it is Adobe Camera RAW, then it is likely that the RAWs get normalized to deliver on a result that looks like it should when ex...

Re: Going backwards - A580

That is really unfortunate about the Sony behavior. The Olympus EM-5 can show the effect of all the jpeg settings in the EVF (at least all that I have tried). Without the DRO equivalent showing in the EM-5 EVF then I would be much less satisfied with the EVF. Having DRO+, minimum contrast, and port...

Re: Going backwards - A580

Believe me - the DRO-Effect is only shown using DOF Preview (and as Barry correctly said only when set to shot preview). At least this is the behaviour on any SLT! Perhaps computing DRO (Apical?) consumes to much power to be always on. I really would like the "setting effects off" option t...

Re: Going backwards - A580

You can indeed use DRO to lift the shadows considerably. One caveat though: The effect is only shown while pressing the DOF-Preview button!

Re: Updates to RX100 and RX1

I've got my RX100M2 yesterday. One observation: It seems that Sony has lacquered the hotshoe with nonconducting black color. The mid contact is silver as are the inner edges of the hotshoe itself. This leads to contact problems with ISO-Hotshoe accessory like RF602. Pixel Adapters with mounting scre...

Re: The a mount is going mirrorless according to SAR

When the first rumors of the end of SLT for APS-C-Alphas came - I also had the idea, that this could mean APS-C will be NEX and Alpha will be FF in future. The follow-ups seem to deny this idea. However - the restriction of the new direction on APS-C models implies, that there must have been some ra...

Re: A77 in the studio

Yes - essentially all Sony Alphas (including NEX) with LiveView would need this option. The only difference is, that the SLT and NEX have no OVF as an alternative.
