Re: SLT A57 thoughts and ramblings...

Thank you for your comprehensive thoughts. I generally agree with them, though I am quite happy with the button assignments. Even the ? button. I love the peaking feature in manual focus - this makes videoing much easier. Something else to note is that there are two Steady Shots: one for photos, one...

Re: EVF brightness on A57 with studio flash and manual sett

Hello Roger. I bought the A57 yesterday and LOVE this camera. I won't be doing any studio work - I'm just a perpetual noob! - but I love the way the live view/EVF show me what the photo will look like before I've taken it. Video is my background, so I guess that's why I prefer it to an optical viewf...

Re: A complete rig based on Alpha 77

OK, I know this thread is old, but I have a question or two about AGC (audio), David. Do you know if the AGC is the same on the A77 and A57? How does the AGC work? I've read somewhere (perhaps here) that the AGC sets itself to whatever the noise level is when movie recording is started. So, if the s...

Re: Anyone with Experience of the VG-20E Nex Video Camera ?

Do you mean - from terrible aliasing? Inadequate anti-aliasing? Correct, David. My mistake. TERRIBLE aliasing. With my background in broadcast, I would notice it, and it would drive me mad. Other people wouldn't see it... did you ever spot the 'dot pattern' on black and white CRTs; cross colour; cr...

Re: Anyone with Experience of the VG-20E Nex Video Camera ?

I don't own one, but as I'm in the market for a new camcorder, I have researched the VG-series. They look lovely, but from what I have learned they suffer from terrible anti-aliasing. The VG-20 is less prone than the VG-10, but it is still prone, unfortunately. So I will be sticking with my FX1 unti...

Re: Canon ILC due soon.

What' with all this retro styling? I guess it's fine for the smaller lenses, but I really need a grip if I'm loading on a larger lens (as I would if I had a Nex). My real gripe with the Nex (Nex 7 excpted?) and other CSCs is that rather than offering the advantages of pocket sized camera and DSLRs, ...

Re: Video tripod not costing the earth. Any suggestions?

In the local video club, we all used Velbon. Not that we recevied a group discount, or incestuously decided we must all have Velbons... independently, we came to the same conclusion that Velbon offered rigidity, sturdiness, fluidity of head movement, and portability at the best price point. I purcha...

Re: NEX-7 article finally up

I'm looking for something for something I could carry around in my pocket for those quick shots and video. The 5N looks promising, but I'd need the lenses. So good as that deal is, I don't think it's for me unless I can find a cheap lens adapter, too.

Re: Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di USD

I have been looking a Tamron, and the Sony version costs £5 more than the Canon and Nikon models (on Amazon; the same elsewhere). I put the difference down to economies of scale. I imagine the Sony version sells in far lower numbers than the other two.

Thank you.

I'll be taking pictures mainly of my rabbits and children, but also some landscapes, and close ups. II'll try to find a local store where I can test it out. I'll also keep an eye open for a 2nd hand CZ16-80.

Re: Good RAW processing program for Sony files

Ron, don't be confused! Yes, Picasa handles all the RAWs I've thrown at it - Sony, Nikon, Canon. In the Picasa FAQs it states that it will open RAW files from: Adobe (.DNG) Canon (.CRW, .CR2) Casio (.RAW) Fuji (.RAF) Hasselblad (.3FR) Kodak (.DCR, .KDC) Leica (.DNG and .RAW) Minolta (.MRW) Nikon (.N...

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical I'm looking for an 'all rounder' that will be good in low light (artificial lighting - domestic fluorescent/energy efficient bulbs) to capture sometimes fast moving pets. Budget is limited, but this lens looks promising. Reviews are generally good. ...

Re: M42 adaptor for A-mount?

Easily found. I have several, from Pixco (eBay) and others. The better ones have focus confirm chipping, they all vary a lot in fit and must always be fitted first with real care - I have had one jam on a camera, and one foul the mechanisms inside the mount. So don't just twist firmly and force. Ge...
