Re: What is the count in the entire world? Maybe 50 posters

Not trying put words into your mouth but you are obviously unhappy and have all ready defined that what Sony and Nikon offer is not for you. I suggest that you simply find the best deal on a Canon that suits you and move on. Long, messy and bitter breakups are best avoided. LOL. You are probably rig...

Re: What is the count in the entire world? Maybe 50 posters

You are kidding me right? At ISO 400/800 the 5d is far less noisy than the A350. Agreed, the a350 is dreadful for noise at anything other than ISO 100/200. I took some shots outdoors with my 100/f2.8 macro lens yesterday at ISO 400 f11 of a spiders web. Despite chimping the shots and thinking they ...

Re: What is the count in the entire world? Maybe 50 posters

As someone desperate to move on to a better camera than my a350 I thought I'd add my view on all this. For me Sony do not currently have a camera that meets my needs. What is interesting in what they have done recently is HDR -very impressive on the nex 5, as is Panorama. I wouldn't say panorama is ...

If Contrast wishes to debate in am informed manner then do so, if you get your kicks out of trolling then I suggest you go elsewhere. Re: Sony Alpha A55/33 ghosting and sigma compatibility prob

Um no. Sony's 18-55 is the best kitlens of all of the ones recently put on entry cams from any maker. DPR and Kurtmumger and others pretty much agree. in fact the worst one i've ever seen was the non stabilized Canon 18-55 which was even worse than Sony's 18-70... which actually wasn't all that bad...

Re: Sony Alpha A55/33 ghosting and sigma compatibility prob

[quote="Javelin] I don't have any issues cleaning or even keeping the sensor clean. I don;t get why you would think it's such a huge problem to clean the sensor vs cleaning a rear element ? this has been a no issue for a long time with any DSLR If it was a "no issue" it wouldn't be a ...

Re: Sony Alpha A55/33 ghosting and sigma compatibility prob

[quote="Javelin"]Case in point "ultra fragile mirror surface" um there glass ... but I don;t think there weaker than any other glass [quote] There is some validity to the original statement, The big disadvantage to DSLR over film is you don't wind on to a new sensor surface with ...

Re: Two Sigma Lens fails

You could have picked up a 28-80mm D instead.... 28-85mm f4.5 is a good lens and cheap (not bad macro but it's WA not tele end) or invest in a 35-70mm f4 cheap enough and stupidly sharp across the range, dare I say stunningly sharp. I'll look out for these, they'd need to be at throwaway price thou...

Re: Two Sigma Lens fails

I approached Sigma regarding my stripped 70-300mm - they didn't want to know, and as a bit out of warranty, I'm unable to return to original seller. Any advice? I was in a local camera repairers a couple of weeks back. A guy walked in with a Nikon lens only 3 weeks old. Somehow it got an eyelash in...

Re: Two Sigma Lens fails

This must be mostly a Sigma problem you don't hear much about Tamron stripping gears or even many Minolta lenses (even cheap kit ones). I've 0 Sigma lenses and I'm not crying about it either! If I remember pulling apart a few old Minolta ones they have metal gears. 28-100 is no macro champ watch ou...

Re: Star trail photos

I haven't tried for star trails myself as yet but have done a few night street light/city/firework scenes. I have noticed camera shake is amazingly easy to get even on these long shutter openings. I prefer to use a cable for these and have learnt the hard way bridges/structured walkways and most hot...

Re: August 23 press release

An exciting morning! DPR mentions both the 560 and 580 here http://dpreview.com/news/1008/10082419sonya580a560.asp . Can't see anthing about DOF/MLU/etc. yet? . This review is interesting in that it includes the specs. I am delighted to see they finally included the manual flash setting and there i...

Re: August 23 press release

Rumours in the last week or so mention the a580 too, that isn't in this press release? Does that mean it is delayed? I really am looking forward to seeing if these models see the return of features missing/lost in the predecessors. Fast frame rate is always good, panorama I always feel is a bit of a...

Re: Two Sigma Lens fails

And yeah we get reamed in Oz and not just by Sony either, it's likely that most of the difference is import duty, you know all those taxes and charges the GST was supposed to replace, a politician's promise, well they 'forgot' duty and added GST on the top, after adding the duty on items over $1000...

Re: Two Sigma Lens fails

I've just managed to pick up a Minolta 28-100 f3.5-5.6 supposedly new (with warranty) off ebay for $54 inc postage. At that price it'll do to replace the failed Sigma 28-90 but I'm sure macro won't be anything like as good, I just hope it is better generally than the kit Sony 18-70 which I don't rat...
