Re: A77
I've played with sweep panorama on the A33 while I had it and my NEX-5 and am very underwhelmed. Maybe it works best in bright light with fast shutter speeds, but I'm seeing 2000px high images that look poor at 100% compared to 'straight' shots at 3000 px high. I'm not sure I could print them any wi...

Re: A33 vs NEX-5 as a carry-everywhere camera
Definitely NEX-5 Yeah - I probably knew it was from the get go. The SLTs are just so tempting, though, with their compact bodies and any number of features I miss when shooting the NEX. It's easy to hope that an SLT with the right lenses will do the trick, but with the two side by side, I kept look...

Re: A33 vs NEX-5 as a carry-everywhere camera
Hmmm ... on second thought, I'm not going to be able to post enough back to back posts due to rules about time between posts ... so here's a link to the thread on dpreview. The first post and 5 replies contain my initial take on the two cameras; toward the bottom, I describe why I chose the NEX-5. h...

A33 vs NEX-5 as a carry-everywhere camera
I posted this to <another forum> and thought it might be interesting to someone here ... I'll have to break it up a little for the 3-images per post rule. I (had) a NEX-5 w/kit zoom and an A33 in my hands for comparison. I've been looking for a camera that, compared to the A700 is more compact, quie...

Re: New Sony DT 16-80mm F2.8-3.5 G SSM patent spotted?
Now that I've ordered an A33 (to compare against a NEX-5 (ordered together) I've been considering lenses for video. One of the appealing things about the SLT vs NEX is that my 16-80 isn't *that* much bigger than the NEX kit zoom (ok, a couple inches longer in total and slightly bigger around) but wi...

Re: Sony 16-80mm zeiss
Are you in the US ? If you buy the two-lens kit, you save $150 ... so you basically buy the NEX/16 kit and pay only $150 more to get the zoom. It lacks the range and edge to edge quality of the 16-80, but it AFs, it's compact, and it's stabilized. If you're seriously considering the 16-80 and it's l...

Re: That Fuji X100 got me thinking
Hi Agorabasta, I wanted to reply to your question about the modified ILS setup. First, I have no idea if such a thing is feasible :) But when Mike Johnston wrote his now-famous article describing his ideal "DMD" (decisive moment digital) he proposed a 24/2 (for APS-C ... classic 35mm FOV) ...
