I did some more tests (on A100) and the 70-200mm SSM takes about 1/5th of a second to focus between 2m and 20m (approx), set to 70mm, while the CZ 16-80mm set to 70mm takes about 1/15th sec. The SSM lens is three times slower. It also is much slower than my 70-210mm 'beercan'. Very quiet, very smoo...

7 or 9, which would you pick ?
Both bodies are falling like stones. If you need a body for backup, what's your choice?

No, you just have to scroll for this large picture. Our normal request is that pictures should be no wider than 800 pixels, and for articles, most images will be within 600 pixels. The photo galleries are also 600 pixels. If you don't have a scroll bar showing, blame IE. David Oh I see. Thanks I am...

When I scan the last frame, I always hear a fairly loud "clunk" sound as the slide holder goes in, is this normal ?

Paulo, the image looks very artificially processed with green posterized haloes round blurred areas and so on. I can not think this is just the lens doing this. It must be a combination of the lens, sensor, and very unusual processing to cope with the extreme exposure and contrast conditions. David...

Re: Sony please don't introduce any more SSM lenses
My experience with my 70-200 f2.8 SSM on my film 7 is that it focuses significantly more slowly and hunts more than my 70-210 f3.5-4.5. It is a useless lens if you need to focus in a hurry. It's not just Minolta lenses. I have tried C*n*n USMs on their bodies and they focus noticeably more slowly t...

Re: What lenses for Swiss holiday?
I'm going on a holiday to the Bernese Oberland and will be taking my A100 with me. Due to the current draconian restrictions on size and weight of carry-on hand luggage I have to decide what lenses to take and what to leave behind. I anticipate taking landscapes, perhaps some alpine flowers, people...
