Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

But with CMOS there is a possibility to use a modified backlit design and move those temporary storage capacitors to the dark side. They would need to solve the problem of making a large backlit sensor physically stronger since the current small backlit CMOS sensors are too thin and fragile. And it...

The you remove the claimed advantages for low and high shooting. And most of your EVF customers walk out on you if it does not flap around.

Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

As a lot of macro work might be tripod based I think live view works fairly well for that field even with slow ish AF you can either flip flap the mirror to AF or use the MF view to get very accurate focus. In the past I've not been sold on live view but I have warmed up to it a bit. Question is do...

Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

The A55 would probably do macro and extreme macro very well in theory, but in practise it might fall short if the battery life is not very good and the flash compatibility is questionable, someone will have to do some tests with one to find out just how useful it is for night macro work out in the ...

Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

Ironically it's in Walt's field that the A55 really wins, with optical systems of very low aperture. The post today about using the 500mm with converter drove that home. It's actually a useful lens on the A55 mainly because you can see to focus. Extended bellows micro lens macro, and microscope sho...

Re: Sony looks to change the world of DSLRs - Masashi 'Tiger

So I think it is probably fair to predict that the A700 successor will be more an A77 SLT type than A750 OVF or whatever. So I don't think that the DSLR supporters will be happy. Walt has got enough A700s to keep him happy and Barry is on his way to Pentax, but the rest will have to make up their m...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

getdpi.com has a sony section and lots of other stuff. The traffic over there is sometimes a bit slow. Maybe I did not make it clear, after reading lots of sony forums I've come to the conclusion that they are just about the worst camera forums to carry on real discussions of the Sony equipment. Fa...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

Great pictures Walt. Good to see you back after an absence. Yes, the Sony A700 is still a great camera and I have been going through quite a number of Jpegs taken by my son with mostly Tamron's 18-250mm zoom. I think even the Jpegs greatly benefit from going through LR3. Keeping away from those at ...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

I like it Walt..The "Sony a700 pentaprism OVF DSLR" description is great as well good on ya ;-) Since there is clearly a lot of confusion on what's a DSLR I want to make sure people know exactly what I'm using. The DSLR label is so damaged now as not to define anything, particularly with ...

Re: Super Steady Shot

I think what might make a difference is if the system tries to accomodate for something moving in the image, grass being moved by the wind for example...that might cause a problem. Greg Not going to be a problem, SSS does nothing for subject movement. It's using motion sensors, not working off the ...

Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...

How about posting a couple of Ring Flash pix in the Flash forum so we can see how well the Sigma works. Greg I'm still one of those suffering with the Obsolete equipment and DSLR. a700, Minolta 100mm D macro, Minolta 1200 macro ringflash. The macro ringflash is terrible, only have to put it on my e...

Re: a850/900 firmware update release

Let me remind you that Minolta actually released a number of A-mount film bodies without the ability to use legacy glass. The crippled A mode problem was not a matter of mounting earlier MF lenses, but was all about exposure control in A mode no matter what you used on front of the camera. Retainin...

Re: α560/α580 are coming

The 580 should satisfy most demands but could this be the last in the line of OVF cameras? Last DSLR from Sony unless they keep the OVF in the FF series through one more round before converting it to SLT as well. 7 series has already lost DSLR. There is also the rumor of the a77 being a hybrid with...

You could do it by putting in a extension tube to space the lens out farther so the mirror would clear.

Of course you loose infinity focus if you do that, no free lunch :-)

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

If we didn't have Sony, the Pentax K-5 would be my choice. The viewfinder is just - lovely. Superb matte field, very bright, very sharp. It's the best DSLR I have seen for some time and it is what Sony should have been making to replace the A700. But what the A55/33 etc have to offer is still equal...
