Re: A77 versus Full frame

You don't suppose Magnar could have been shaking the A700 tripod to get his result, do you? :D The goal of running my own tests is learn my cameras and lenses to know, so that I can get the most out of the gear. If I find the results of general interest, I might post some examples and a text that e...

Re: A77 versus Full frame

I’m prepared to cop it on the chin; I can’t imagine Magnar would have any particular interest in fudging the tests. The thing that strikes me about magnification is when you compare high magnification of something up close and high magnification of something far away the most difficult too get unde...

Mirror vibration is for sure an issue for some of my work.
That's a very telling demonstration, Magnar. Well done!

Re: Zeiss 24 1.8 for NEX 7

OSS means optical steady shot which is intended to reduce motion blur in a jittery image specifically for handheld cameras and has nothing to do with the lens aperture. Read up on this - http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/digita ... shake.html

Now that I can definitely agree with. My thumb is currently undergoing reindoctrination so that my wife doesn't have to put up with a string of expletives. I figure another couple of outings and I'll have it trained.

Re: Sony NEX-7 Six Months On

PS: BTW, there is some mistakes and misconceptions on the article... Agreed. I've only had mine for two weeks and not having nearly the problems he mentions. The part about lenses being relatively too large for the body was just a waste of recycled electrons in my view. They have to cover the senso...

Re: Sony NEX-7 Six Months On

Current EVFs are certainly quite usable and from 3 days ago I use one sometimes, but they definitely aren't WYSIWYG like is so often claimed. Lots of times there are things that your eye can see and that is captured by the camera, but you can't see when using the EVF. Maybe not, but it's way more W...

Re: Question about EVFs and sunglasses

Speaking of suddenly reacting, yesterday was my first real outing with the NEX-7 with 18-55 and 55-210 on a long hike up in the Santa Ana Mountains of southern California. Since I've only had it less than two weeks, most of my shooting has been backyard testing verifying everything that has ever bee...

Re: Question about EVFs and sunglasses

My former camera had EVF blackout with polarized glasses in vertical position. That is precisely why I bought the Sony a580 with prisim viewfinder. Ron I took sunglasses off for my Hi-Matic 9, SRT101, my X700, my Maxxums, 5D, A100, A350, A55, A65 and now the NEX-7. I'm a creature of habit. However ...

Re: Question about EVFs and sunglasses

Maybe some of the rest of the image on LCD was darkening too but if it did, it was not as noticeable as the sky, which is quite apparent. The sky turns a rather dull and muddy dark blue. I use the EVF almost exclusively and remove sunglasses for that anyway, so it's not an issue. I wish the LCD woul...

How that polarizing effect works.

Maybe you know, so I'll ask you. What makes that EVF/LCD polarize the sky image with sunglasses?

Maybe I asked that backwards.

Re: Question about EVFs and sunglasses

This is something I have fought with on my S95 and now my S100. Always had to lower my polarized sunglasses on my nose and look over them at the LCD. The NEX-7 has a different effect. You can turn the camera and LCD is still visible (and the EVF) but the blue sky darkens just as if you had a polariz...

Re: E mount prime lens quality.

I will always have a soft spot for Olympus and hope they can get back in the game. And I can understand that. It's where the nostalgia goes back to. I use a Minolta lens cap on my CZ16-80 and will soon have one for the 18-55 on the NEX-7, just to keep the legacy alive and remember where I have been...
