Re: Challenge #44: The Holiday Season

What, still no pictures yet?
I'll start it off then with a selection of nativity sets from around the world on display in a local church today....

Re: Nikon and serious advertising

I don't watch a great deal of TV but have recently seen adverts for Canon, Nikon and Sony here in the UK. They were all much of a muchness 'buy our product and you'll take the best pictures in the world' type thing - but it is good to see that Sony has realised they've got to get any potential camer...

Re: 70-400G - is it good enough?

I had one of the first 70-400’s available in the UK. When I took delivery of it I tested it thoroughly on both my A700 and A900 and at 300mm it performed as well as my 300 f4 G HS (now sold) - even open wide. At 400mm it is still exceedingly sharp. From the pictures you posted I’d swap your copy, it...

Re: Sigma 24-70/2.8 EX DG Macro

I had one for a couple of years and which was used on an A100. I found it a really good lens, sharp to the edges with minimal distortion, although on an APS sized sensor it lacks the real wide angle view at 24mm. I got rid of it when I aquired an 16-80 CZ. If it's a good price then you shouldn't be ...

Re: Photoshop Elements 9

Have had to call Adobe UK a couple of times in the past, most recently when swapping from XP to Mac and having serial number problems. Always found them knowledgeable and helpful. But as Henry says, that is not the norm with so called tech support. Best of luck!

Re: Strange behaviour of genuine Sony NP-FM500H battery

alphaomega, sorry that you're having such problems. Calumet are selling Sony NP-FM500H batteries through Amazon at £47.69 incl p&p. These should be genuine Sony products as Calumet are a trustworthy supplier. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000XAE3IM/ref=pd_luc_mri?ie=UTF8&m=A1TFKMPRMZM7...

Re: Can HVL-F58AM work with the Maxxum 3600HS via wireless?

No, you cannot use the old Minolta 54HS flash with any of the digital Minolta or Sony SLR's at anything other then full power - that's the reason they are so cheap second hand! There is a company, German I think, (David wrote about them a year or two back, if my memory is correct) who will sell you ...

Re: A55 review now up

David, can you not download freeware clock software to run on your Mac which has a millisecond counter, and use the computer screen as the clockface? Just an idea as there are a number of freebe programs out there.

Re: Firmware update announced for A850/A900

I have down loaded from Sony's Australian site http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/430488/product/dslr-a900 and everything appears to be working fine. Video output is default PAL and HDMI is default HD(720)prior (1080i is an option). Haven't really tried the camera out since flashing the firmwar...

Firmware update announced for A850/A900

According to dpreview http://www.dpreview.com/news/1012/10120205sonya850a900firmware.asp Sony have finally released the long expected firmware. However as of 7.15am (GMT) it wasn't availible on Sony UK's support page. Details are also on Sony's website http://presscentre.sony.eu/content/detail.aspx?...

Re: Lens Recommendations for Upcoming Vacation?

As Greg begins his answer above, much depends on personal preference. If it were me going, I'd want something wider then your lineup currently gives you, in the 8/11-18/20 range, and pair it with the 18-250, leaving the 17-50 at home. I'd also take the 50 1.4 for those evening and twilight photo opp...

Re: Landscape wide angle zoom for full frame

Much does depend on your photographic preferences, but if the 16-80 is usually wide enough on a cropped sensor, then the 24-70, which gives a corresponding field of view on full frame, would be your best bet. I have (amongst others!) a Sigma 12-24, Minolta 17-35 G and CZ 24-70 which I mount on an A9...
