Re: Intermediate focal length lens options (standard-tele)

I had a similar dilema and finally ordered the new Sigma 17-50 2.8 (also have a sigma 70-200) Can't tell you if it's any good yet because it's on backorder, but the reviews so far are very promising. http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/531-sigma1750f28os http://www.digitalcamaralens.com/Html/Objetivos...

Re: Sony quality control problems

I had sporadic problems with both wheels of my A700. A few months ago I cleaned them with a blower, rotating rapidly while blowing air inside each wheel cavity, and since then both wheels work just perfect. Didn't take much time neither, only a couple of minutes. No need for vacuum cleaner sometimes...

Re: Lightroom : automatic lens correction

Well that explains why DxO takes so long to add new lens correction modules. And it should take longer for them because they do CA and softness correction as well. I was thinking that I read somewhere that the new LR corrects distortion, vignetting, and CA. Is that wrong? Sorry for some reason I as...

Re: Lightroom : automatic lens correction

The sheer number of images you must take to profile a lens is enormous. We will be trying out the automatic correction on Sigma 12-24mm and Sigma 18-250mm shots very shortly, pix taken, just waiting to be processed. All current Sigma lenses have full profiles. I may try creating a lens profile, but...

Re: Sigma 17-50 2.8

Well I've ordered it and should be here in less than a month. I found a review, maybe the first one, here in case anyone is interested (it's in spanish but google can translate it). So far looks like a pretty good lens, better than the Tamron... at least in paper ;) As soon as I have it I'll let you...

Sigma 17-50 2.8

Any opinions on this new lens? Has anyone yet had the chance to try it? I'm thinking of buying it instead of the Tamron 17-50 2.8... I like better the EX series from Sigma, they feel more solid. I believe it should be quite good optically as it seems very similar to the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 which is a ...

Re: Lightroom 3.0 now available :-)

I'll give it a try a day before my beta version expires, so I can test it for another month for free :) So far is a mixed feeling (coming from picasa+dxo). I like the integration and file management (keywording is much better than picasa's) but don't like so much the raw processing... dxo feels so m...

Re: Sony a950 ???????

The design looks ok to me. Maybe a bit too modern but ok. But I definitely don't like the placement of the buttons.
Anyway, it looks much better than the new NEX :)

Re: Sony a950 ???????

I really hope so! So far it seems Sony will only listen to regular people (the masses) and not photographers. Every new camera since the A850 is small, light, has very few buttons and options. I look forward to the replacement of the A700 later this year, let's hope they release a better camera and ...

That's just a fantasy 3d model made by some guy from Spain.

Re: Wireless flash

According to the F58 manual HSS won't work when the flash is tilted (bounce flash). But I don't need it to be tilted since I bounce it straight to the umbrella. Will give it a try when I have the time. Anyway is not a big deal really, if it doesn't work I'll just keep using my "film filter"...

Re: Wireless flash

The signal window is larger than the F56 but I don't know if it's just a cosmetic difference or the sensor is also bigger. Your idea is good but unfortunately, because of the design of the F58, I can't rotate it that way. You can see how it rotates here: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2008/06/19/sony...

Re: Wireless flash

I actually like the results I'm getting with this setup so far, so I'll try first using HSS, maybe that can help. If not then I guess I'll keep using the film trick or change the setup somehow.
I'm attaching a diagram of the lighting setup I'm using. I know is simple, but it's all I got :)

Re: Wireless flash

Yes I'm already using that film trick, and it works it just looks ugly taping the film to the flash. But HSS is a good idea, didn't think on that as I mostly use aperture priority. Will give it a try.

Thanks!
