Re: SLT light show

Those blobs are not individual images, they are formed by multiple individual reflections coinciding at the particular direction of observing. The light coming from the source hits the individual sensels/microlenses at slightly different angles, and then the angle of view from the observer is also s...

Re: Sony 35mm f/1.8 DT SAM ( SAL-35F18 ) with LA-EA2 on NEX-

BTW, I used the SAL-35F18 on a 12 MP camera for years and it was sharp, but never "too sharp" for that resolution. I don't know what "too sharp" even means, but I doubt I'll ever make that complaint. The 12Mp alphas had effective LPF's. The 14/16Mp Nex's don't, hence colour ring...

Re: Sony 35mm f/1.8 DT SAM ( SAL-35F18 ) with LA-EA2 on NEX-

The lens is perfect on a 7 and a bit too sharp on a 6 (and on all other 16/14Mp bodies) where it may lead to moire and colour ringing at the sharpest edges.

Re: New Canon EOS 100D

The a55 is the best, and so will it be forever. I'm quite serious - the totality of useful features in such a small and versatile body won't be beat any time soon, and that's not for the technical reasons. The only thing really lacking is the focus peaking; but we shouldn't trust that for the critic...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Barry, My take on the matter is that a big corp is a totally and completely inanimate thing. So when put into your shoes I'd just tell them what are my preferences, asking them to act up to those. But then again, the retailer that sold you the item has to bear their share of responsibility - they've...

Re: Sigma 35/1.4 is the best?

I would like to know how it behaves on the a99. Not only quality wise but also technically, i.e., would the lens be recognized by the camera and all settings (AF calibration) remain so, and not "fooled" by another lens (of similar ID perhaps). Sony bodies do not recognise long lens ID's s...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Having tried twice to change mounts I think the best way to do it is sell everything all gone. Quite logical that is. But why don't you buy min of two bodies, that's if there's a dependence consideration? And then, just have them retailers all lined up and saluting, would you please!? I have a nast...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Time will tell how much or how long that "plastic " mount will last. Well, Doc, that assertion of yours is quite justified. If they put a ring of cheap saw-blade steel moulded into that plastic ring, it all may play out OK to an extent. But I'm not up to their experimentations (am too old...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Pako, All Sony a-mount bodies had their mount parts slightly different, their replacement p/n's are completely different. It's only the bodies within the same basic project that shared those parts, e.g. a200/300/350 or a55/33. Having a plastic flange below a strong metal front ring is absolutely no ...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

All this is for the A55, right? do you love that camera that much? It's small, got GPS - means good for travel. Works well with my manual Samyangs. And it's the least noisy of all APS SLT's. Sure a Nex7 with adapter is better for ultimate quality, still the Nex feels much more awkward. And then the...

Re: Sony A58 "plastic lens mount"

Pako, I think getting a new/used LA-EA1 would be a safer bet as it seems to share mount with a77. And I'm pretty sure that the mount front ring must go together with the aperture ring and its rollers, and their design has changed slightly with the SLT's.

Re: SLT mirrors' partnumbers

I was thinking the existing A55 aperture unit could be left where it is, the thing I was wondering most about was that there might be differences in the rear of the mount where it sits on the mirror box mounting points and the mounting points themselves, whether they were all at the same height in ...

Re: SLT mirrors' partnumbers

Thanks, Greg. But I wouldn't marrying the a700 mount ring with the SLT aperture assy. The reason is that the SLT aperture control assys are made to work without lubrication - must be to try and keep mirror clean of lubricant spread. So one would need a mount+aperture rings/rollers kit, and that's no...

Re: SLT mirrors' partnumbers

The newer p/n APS mirror is a replacement part for all APS bodies, including past and current. The fact they list a33 as target model is mere inconsistency in their bookkeeping. A simple Google search for 'A1855640A a55' confirms people were getting that part as a replacement for a55. Similar search...

SLT mirrors' partnumbers

So obviously there were two different p/n's for the APSC mirrors, and they are apparently interchangeable. And then there was only one p/n for the FF SLT mirror.
They may be ordered from this site - https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/
