Re: Photo printing online
I'm in the UK. (Must fix profile to reflect this info as I see yours shows NYC right there...) Both Peak Imaging and BonusPrint do 36x24 so maybe you can combine your two images and cut the print down the middle. Might not be easy to cut it straight though. Not sure if you were nervous of the quali...

Re: Infrared Filters
Hi everybody!! Dear Harvey I have just done experiments on the leds I have under my disposal. Thanks very much! The "white" LED is very blue, particularly so if you compare against daylight, and normal and daylight incandescent bulbs. See here for some GE bulb spectra. Also there is quite...

Re: Infrared Filters
By the way now under my disposal I have one of the best spectrophotometers in my lab and I can measure the filters' transmittance and reflectance in a month, actually I can do many test. Armen I would be really interested to see the spectrum from an LED light (joby gorillatorch or video LED panel)....

Re: AF confirmation adapter for A-mount manual lens help/advice
Thanks for the info and link. I was just concerned that because of my less than perfect eyesight, I wouln't be getting the subject in focus, hence the AF confirm question. One would assume then that the lens will pretty much get everything in focus most of the time due to it's infinity focus cababi...

Re: Minolta Dimage 5400
I don't understand the system concerns. I have a 5400 II on a system with Athlon XP, 2G RAN and Windows XP SP2. The even older Elite scanner (SCSI) was much slower. I don't have a problem editing the large scans and I only change to 8-bit in CS4. As for Vista I kept away from it. Even now Microsoft'...

Re: Diffraction
I think the atmosphere is the ultimate limiting factor, it has been accused of being a very messy substance to try to receive a point source through optically, (speaking telescopes that is), It would limit our photo opportunities to only take photos on the top of mountains near those telescopes! .....

Re: Freeze your sensor for top high ISO results.
Because the original post comes from 4Chan, I must say, don't pass this along unless you've tried it yourself and can confirm not only that it works, but that you camera survived. It has all the markings of a horrible practical joke. Madness. Even without trying it the worries mount up... Operating...

Re: Diffraction
I sort of assumed it was to do with the diffraction limit of a reasonably good lens, (as well), the thinking is, as you pack ever more sensels onto a chip eventually you reach the stage that the sensel size is going to be as small or even smaller than the diffracion spot of a good lens. Assuming th...

At the moment I'm using a SanDisk Extreme IV 8GB, no problems so far.
I usually go for the size where doubling the density starts to almost double the cost.

Re: Wildlife Photgrapher of the Year disqualified
Quite shocked when I saw this story today but also remembered that I was amazed at the photograph when I first saw it and had my own doubts, the picture looked too good. http://www.photoanswers.co.uk/News/Search-Results/General-News/Winner-of-the-Wildlife-Photographer-of-the-Year-competition-2009-h...

Re: Yep, you said something wrong to her
Face masks are very popular in Japan to try to reduce or prevent catching a cold. Back in October when I first got back to Tokyo there were many more of them all around than I was used to seeing because it was thought to help with respect to H1N1 influenza (swine flu). Now I am seeing less, more li...

Re: Rumour says, A900/A850 firmware update due in February
The good think about the A900, is that on my side I don't see really something that will really make me more happy in a firmware update. Probably a ISO 50 capability will be the only think I can want in some situation. How about Turn off "Eye Start" Mirror lock up mode with IR commander D...

Re: Strobist - Know Your Sync
...A Sony a700, on the other hand, has an advertised sync speed of 1/250 or 1/200 with SSS turned on, while I've had little trouble lighting images with SSS turned on at 1/250. Does anybody have any experience or input about the true sync speeds of their Alpha cameras? http://strobist.blogspot.com/...

Re: Teleconverter noob question
Frank, this is very useful information. I am leaning towards a 2X at the moment, just so that I can get as far of a reach as I can with a single investment. However, your point about the CA with it makes me think a bit. I almost never shoot with the 200mm wide open, I stop it (up?) to (at most?) 3....
