Re: Konica Minolta 5D DSLR - does it still cut it?
Greg I have a 120 roll film camera, but it's from the 30's I have yet to run a roll of film through it. There was some talk of a 645 based system from a few friends, again as a sort of expanded film mission. Might look into that one, though really we do need the darkroom up and running ist. The obvi...

Re: Panasonic G1 sensor v. D300 & D3
I rarely take anything AP say as gospel. I used to get the mag often, and it's not bad in some ways. Aka it avoids the photoshop overload tutorials, which many mags overdo. On the other hand, I have never found their reviews or tests really very reliable or objective, often with the text giving a co...

Re: Konica Minolta 5D DSLR - does it still cut it?
To the comments above. Greg I am in the process of setting up a wet darkroom with a friend, as a joint venture. But it will be for B&W work, not colour. But it is simply wrong to suggest, and some have..that film suddenly looks "just like digital" when you scan and print it, it looks c...

Just shows you going from studio tea boy, and Rick is still making a few £££ on tour!

Re: Konica Minolta 5D DSLR - does it still cut it?
The only thing to say with regards the A350 and other cameras in the image appeal department. Is it's purely down to taste. I was thinking more of landscapes and scenic, than skin tones. But opinions here will vary. Being dead honest, some appeal more than others. For skintones I remember trying a 4...

Reasons NOT to shoot negative film part I
I won't re-post the entire thing here, but have a look at this. Some labs are frankly incompetent. No it's not put me off of shooting film, it's just made my life harder to try and find a place that does a decent job. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1035&message=31457283" o...

Re: Konica Minolta 5D DSLR - does it still cut it?
I still like the 5d, it has it's weak points..no question. I got the A200 as it was too cheap to say no to. Overall both cameras are very different..and better suited to their own types of work. Whatever the OP does, don't bother selling the 5d..as second hand prices are so cheap, it really is not w...

Re: APS-C Primes
I see Tamron are touting the 60mm macro as a portrait lens too. Which is fair enough. Though 70mm would be perfect, equivalent to the rather well liked 105mm. I guess some of this APS appeal might be on price, but we will have to see how it shapes up. I won't disagree with Dr. Harout, in that APS wi...

Re: olympus DSLR gear
Being fair to Olympus, their newer E-620 looks pretty decent overall, they put the strap lugs in the right place this time, updated the features and VF, more AF points, AF adjustments too. Not sure what the price will be, but it looks like one of their more appealing offerings to date. The E30 is ho...

Re: Hartblei Tilt-Shift lenses receive Carl Zeiss certification
I swear I ran across a T/S lens on ebay once, MD mount. I wish I could remember what it was, I know it was not cheap, and that I could not find another one.

Lens looks good, you have some serious dust issues on your sensor though!

Hmm a few things here. We have known for a while that high ISO on, does indeed do NR to raw, I have no idea why this happens. You will have to ask Sony about that one. IMO a bit dumb, but as I never use high ISO NR on anyway..it's not a deal breaker. ACR does NR on it's own (and unavoidable), so he ...

Re: Reasons to shoot colour neg film part I ;-)
Javelin, sorry to hear it did not work out for you. Just to point out, whilst I am a film fan, I am not a film die hard..100% use it and nothing else. Some are, no problem with that..same as 100% digital folks. I do like digital too, it's a potent tool for some types of work. Low light, action, when...

Re: Reasons to shoot colour neg film part I ;-)
From what I hear, Ilford are doing pretty well. They got bought out a few years back, but seem on track nowadays. I think most of the damage is done digital wise, leaving the enthusiasts to buy and use film, or which there are probably more than people think, but obviously digital is the mass market...
