Re: which lens to buy?

Picked up the Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM today, not bad, ordered it late friday and they tried to deliver it Monday afternoon but no one way home at the time ( from Hong kong to Oz over the weekend) was dark by the time I got home, so here are some samples shots, taken in the study. :) first shot 250mm f...

Re: which lens to buy?

Thanks for all the advice, has it turned out I didn't quite have the funds I wanted, so I've chosen a Sigma 18-250 OS HSM.

I'm hoping the lens will be good enough to also replace my 70-300 tamron Di for now.

Cheers, Steve

Re: Pricing of Sony 300/2.8 and others

in Australia, http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/ (who look like a gray importer) have the Canon 300L 2.8 for $7727.00 and the Sony 300f2.8 for $5879.00 has for AF, going from a A350 to a A550, the A550 ability to focus on small birds in trees (or any bird at long distances) is light years ahead of...

Re: Birds 2011

I have some bird shots :) Not sure what species this is , but I'm leaning towards a immature Rufous Whistler (it's a 98% crop of an image taken at 300mm a550 :) wish I had a 70-400 and A65/77 for these heavy crops :) ) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wsCBW9HmKAI/TssFd77NEFI/AAAAAAAAAj0/DiyOl8j09h...

Question about OSX Aperture

Hi All does anyone know if Aperture apply NR, even if it's turn off? Now that Aperture has been updated for A77, I down loaded a DPR 6400 test image and I get this with All NR turned off. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4EKwkQ4_NG0/Tr2W7aUYaNI/AAAAAAAAAjo/GpMmKBXR-mg/s1024/Screen%252520Shot%25252...

Re: Monitor Settings and Calibration

Hi Agorabasta that monitor looks good, I got this from the Australian Dell site, "Compatibility with industry colour standards (sRGB 100% coverage, Adobe RGB 96% coverage) - 110% (NTSC) Colour Gamut" does having such a big color coverage make a big difference when viewing photos? Cheers, S...

Re: Nex7 noise performance is simply fabulous

The nex7 shot has so much more detail, David is this due to the lens ? Or is It due to how Sony are using the sensor in the A77? I wonder how the nex7 goes with the slt based adaptor ? David does the a77 shot show the sort of detail you would expect for that shot and that class of camera ? I.e is th...

Re: The concept of Translucent...and resistance to it.

Hi David. Are you shooting raw with the A77?, the following was mentioned over at DPR, " using the creative setting "portrait" and dialing in -3 contrast, and this opens up shadows quite a bit in the EVF. Another nice benefit of using low contrast settings is that it'll give you a mor...
