Re: SAL70400G

Hi there, since the problems of the OP seem to be more or less solved, I hope you don't mind me "hijacking" the thread for a question concerning my own 70-400G, which I got yesterday: When testing the lens in the shop, I noticed that the lens would not focus with the shop owners A350, my o...

Re: Bother with back focussing

Hi all, since we are talking focussing issues again (and a potential solution to them): The many posts here have made me believe that a lot of the 50/1.4 focus issues are (at least partly) due to focus shift. Since I use the Sigma 50/1.4, I also experience that in practice and it seems as if my A700...

Re: Backfocus difference between Sigma and Minolta 50/1.4

I received my A900 ten days ago, and currently I am in the midst of fine-adjusting the auto-focus for all my lenses. After ten days, I am far from finished ... and I have not even touched any of the zoom lenses yet. The focus is shifting with the colour of the light, the distance range, and the ape...

Re: Backfocus difference between Sigma and Minolta 50/1.4

Dear David, The Sigma has minimal focus shift with stop down/open up. Remember, when you fit a 50mm f1.4 lens to your KM7D, the focusing and viewing (screen) are done at an effective f/7.1 (AF) and f/4.5 (the screen). You can never actually see the true focus of the lens at f/1.4 since the focusing ...

Backfocus difference between Sigma and Minolta 50/1.4

Dear David, dear forum members, about half a year ago I started a thread about backfocus issues with the 50/1.4, and I was happy to get a great number of useful and informative answers. Two days ago, I purchased the Sigma 50/1.4 HSM, which I tried out at Photokina. I notices something weird: The bac...

Re: HVL-F58AM flash overheated

Thanks all for your opinions. It seems like a good idea to make the flash shut down before it blows into your face... I have never noticed any problems with th 5600HS, but maybe I actually oversaw the problem and put the machine at risk... I actually shot 350 pictures in less than 2 hours, most of t...

HVL-F58AM flash overheated

Hi all, Sorry for having been absent quite a long time from the forum... been quite busy professionally! So hardly any time left to shoot, apart from the usual christmas stuff. Hoping for better times and better weather... I recently purchased two HVL-F58AM flash guns (for my father and my brother, ...

Re: Silver lens, yes or no?

I would prefer that as they work on eliminating silver, they work on getting rid of the orange too. It's pretty ugly. Intersting discussion...I never actually thought of the aestetics of the lenses... As long as anything you see through the lens looks good :D But I got used to the orange... It is c...

Re: A900 Samples (links)

Hi Mark, Don and Dr., Well I finally went over download the file on my USB-stick on another computer... Mine seems to have moral problems with scottish waters... :D Well Mark: These pictures are nothing less than stunning... Did you use ND filters to achieve this? Please keep posting these... Jonathan

Re: A900 Samples (links)

Hi Jonathan For some reason, mediafire that I use for posting these larger files (due to bandwith requirements) ocassionaly stops working, however, I just checked it and it seems to be working OK. I think there have been a lot of downloads of this, so perhaps you were trying at a busy time? Let me ...

Re: A900 Samples (links)

Spectacular pictures in the Edinburgh slideshow, especially the night shots. I must say I find the parliament building pretty intriguing... Would be a reason for a visit. But I am sorry I can't download the Hawkscraig Point slideshow. Has it been removed? Or did the link change? And after seing the ...

Re: Birds of Prey

Stunning pictures, Brian. I never saw an eagle owl flying, I once helped recovering a injured one, a friend of mine had it in "custody" for some time... broken wing or something. That buzzard is stunning. They are so photogenic... What is the last bird in your show? I don't remember. Is it...

Re: low iso noise A900

David, you stated repeatedly (and showed a lot of convincing samples) that the A900 works astonishingly well with a range of lenses that intuitively would be considered too "weak" to do so, such as the KM17-35, the KM28-75, beercan etc etc. Do you have a theory why that would be? Is it a h...

Re: HVL-F58AM flash gun

Appearantly the Metz 58AF-1 will be updated soon to be able to function with the A900... A very nice lady at Photokina told me that this will be done per firmware fix within the next few months... So that might be a cheaper alternative in case we actually have to buy 6 flashguns... AFAIK, only the ...
