Re: a300, My first impressions :)

Shots look good to me. Not much interest in the LV side of things myself, but maybe later on. I can see some use for it. Pop-up flash, kinda bugs me though, it's pretty good exposure wise, but just does not raise high enough on some lenses, hoods can cause trouble. Still, not a real problem with a p...

Re: Minolta 7D - where are you now?

I have been tempted to pick one up in the past. The only concern is "how long will it last" The thoughts of buying a camera only for it to die on you, are not too nice. I am sure some out there are just fine. With the 5d, it was different..I have had good use out of it, saying that..if it ...

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?

I found the KM kit good on the 6mp body, and still pretty good on the 10mp A200. the 2nd sony would be fine, were it not for the right hand side, it has severe blur on the edge (edge not just corner!) wide open its a disaster, and it never clears up till f16, by which time the dffraction kills the s...

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?

I tested two recent copies of the sony kit lens, and both sucked IMO. Ist was just soft, stopped down, and not very impressive, terrible at tele end, even stopped down, the 28-80d blew that apart with ease. some poor soul got that one aka ebay (though for smaller prints they won't care), the 2nd was...

That Cheap Ebay NP-FM500H battery

I got my battery this morning, via hong kong, the usual place for the battery deals. I can report the following.. Construction looks good, no issue with inserting or removing the battery (ie, it fits fine) Moulding is very close to the original , of course. This one is branded "SIDO", I ha...

Re: Nikon D3X on the way

The price of the Nikon is pure crazy.. Over £5000, that is serious cash. I can get a lot of A200's for that ;-) lol Not sure what justifies the price of it, the D3 is about £2500 odd. I expected this to be £3000 maybe a bit more. Ok so established pro's won't sniff at buying a couple of bodies for £...

Re: Nikon D3X on the way

Ouch! I didn't expect it to be cheap, but wow, that is a lot higher than I was thinking.
Not that I can afford either..but hey, you never know..
Really makes the A900 look very affordable!

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

Interesting! ACR really struggles in the shadow areas, and has problems. The biggest of which is the nasty artefacts that come about with the "Knoll mushmaster" effect as I like to call it. Played with IDC v 3, and whilst its not amazing, in most cases it did a better job than ACR, with ID...

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

I won't be bothering myself with dp, I have better things to do, including working through some shots at the weekend. No doubt I will directly tackle phil and co, when they next do a review with ACR..and ask them why they are using the worst software for high ISO. I respect phil for setting up a ver...

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

I have clashed with phil a few times in the past. But he has yet to ban me, for some reason. The thing that bothers me, is that I raised a very valid point. Looking at that LX-3 conversion, there are no doubts as to which one is ropey, and which is decent. This is in the interests of all users, esp ...

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

Dp pulled my thread, well I can guess why! 1: They didnt want to upset adobe 2: People would question the validity of their reviews, which are based heavily on ACR Dp don't want people talking about ACR and it's flaws..shame on phil and co...money talks eh? New thread..let's see if this sticks! http...

Re: Minolta Dynax 60, any good?

Not sure I accept focus accuracy is more critical on digital. Some of us are scanning film at very high resolutions, you see everything that goes on, nothing escapes your eye! There are not that many 60's around, but the odd one does crop up, just keep your ebay eyes peeled, and you should be able t...

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

Maybe Ken is busy! lol Anyway, have a look here.. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1033&message=30145534" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As you can see, it's not a camera specific problem. ACR is some ugly mess for high ISO work. I started another thread ...

Re: Barry F. Blasting Thomas Knoll for ACR/Lightroom Methods

Well I have no problems letting Ken play with the raw file, it's only a junky snapshot anyway! Back to ACR, I am NOT HAPPY at all with what is going on, and I am a bit let down there is not more support for this cause. ACR is a terrible choice for high ISO work, and the only reason for that, is the ...
