Re: May I be guided by you?
I don't know why Sony don't have a master switch that just disables the features that still shooter want and expect to be there, the ones that seemingly interfere with the video feature that so many apparently are keen on being added into a still camera, then those who just want a prosumer still ca...

Re: May I be guided by you?
Do you Guys think the A550 will do it for me or should I wait for the A700 replacement and that I’m told won’t be long now? Regards Richard Well for bird shooting I use MLU a lot when shooting from a tripod, and the a550 does not have that. DOF preview is also a miss and I do use it a fair amount t...

Re: 'While stocks last'
They had the 24-70mm mounted up and the size imbalance is huge. But they can't make it autofocus, or even provide a green light focus confirmation. David For me the AF is a minor issue. I can do MF quite well with nearly all of what I shoot, though I do use AF as much as it's able. But I am perfect...

Re: Release of Sony NEX5 and 3 cameras 11 May 2010
See my first web report for the BJP - they got a quick file for the magazine on the day, and this one was written up on the flight back and sent from Heathrow tonighjt - they were pretty quick getting it on line: http://www.bjp-online.com/public/showPage.html?page=874550 David At the end of that yo...

Re: Variable ND filter
Walt I have seen the singh-ray. It is in high regards and would be an awesome filter to have but if I am going to spend $400 on a filter I'd rather put it towards a lens Well, in my case I cheated through my usual discount house (ebay) and did not pay anything like full fare. It is really good. Man...

Re: 'While stocks last'
David- That does not sound good. As my wife would say, the animal would be home in his jammies, laughing before you got to the photo. And I'm actually following the NEX as a hopeful bridge camera for bike touring. Just as well I got the HX1 to mark time when my Z6 died. Figured I could at least play...

Re: Variable ND filter
Singh ray has one thats highly regarded. ND2 -ND12 I think. I have the Singh Ray Vari-N-Duo, which combines polarizer and variable ND in one. 2 2/3 to 8 stops ND. It's 77mm diameter but 17mm thick, so not going to work on wide angle lenses much. There is a thin version at 14mm thick too. Very nice ...

Re: 'While stocks last'
Sony several times emphasised that Alpha DSLR system development is unaffected - new factory in Thailand to make NEX, no capacity reduced for Alpha, two new Alpha in the pipeline and further plans for very exciting models later on. Sony now has 15% of the European DSLR market, and Europe as a resul...

Re: Sony 18-250 vs 28-75/70-210
For me the question was if it would be worth getting the CZ16-80, 28mm on APS-C being soooo long :? . The 18-250 got lots of praise when it was released, and I love it's versatility, but this test showed me it's drawbacks. I got the CZ16-80 to try instead of the 18-250 for travel. In a two month fo...

Re: Really Right Stuff L plate for Sony Alpha 900
They are a bit of a cult accessory. You still have buy a very expensive Arca Swiss head, and if my Arca Swiss ballhead (almost $500) is anything to go by, they are not long-lived when used with heavy equipment. I usually work with a pan and tilt head giving more than 90 degrees of flip (vital, many...

Re: Sony 30mm f/2.8
Thank you very much Walt. You have been of great help. Thanks. So if I understood correctly the adapter (FA-MA1AM) is for making manual focus possible. I really don't need to use the twin macro with the 30/2.8 in extreme macro. That wouldn't make sense, because I'd rather use the 50/2.8 instead. So...

Re: Sony 30mm f/2.8
That adapter (FA-MA1AM) actually gobbles up most, if not all, of your working distance with the little 30/2.8 Macro. As we don't have a real representative (agency, Sony room, whatever) here, may I ask if you could ask someone there if the HVL-MT24AM could be mounted on it without the adapter and w...

Re: Sony Lens Quality-
If that's the case, why did they produce the 70-400mm G lens? It's possible that Sony is going to split their DSLR efforts. A separately marketed Pro line as they do in video. And that will probably be just FF unless the a7xx turns out to be far more advanced than it looks like now. If so they'd pr...

Re: Sony 30mm f/2.8
AF/MF switch on the a700 cannot control the lens Those are all specifications of the lens and the camera body. Did you check them before you decided to order it? What about IQ? Is it not even worth mentioning? Or, are you glad the bells and whistles were left out in favour of IQ? As I stated in my ...

Re: Hyperfocal distance
Still, relying on DOF for good sharpness is not a good idea, particularly when expectations on sharpness are high. Near the borders of the DOF range, i. e. at the front limit and the rear limit of the DOF, sharpness will be just-so acceptable---read: far from really good. And focussed at the hyperf...
