Re: HDR attempt´s

Hmm...the HDR version does have halos around quite a few branches, some quite severe in a few places (toward the upper, left hand corner, the blue sky has turned almost white in one spot). If you like the look of the HDR version, you can probably get something quite a bit closer from the standard ex...

Dennis: I think you need to change your signature -- you may be new to this, but at least if my opinion on the subject is to be believed at all, you definitely have a lot of talent. You're producing far too nice of shots far too dependably for it to have all come from luck!

Re: 41 MP camera...

Harvey: the pixel pitch seems to work out to about 1.4 microns. Presumably it's a Bayer pattern sensor, so for 1.4 micron pixel pitch the smallest "dot" you want to expose is about 3.5 microns. To get a 3.5 micron Airy disc, you need a lens that's diffraction limited at a little faster tha...

I'm not sure what it is either, but it sure is a cute little one, and nicely captured too!

Re: Snow day in Ehime-ken, Japan

The big question though is if Al Gore is going to show up to try and sell us some carbon offsets. Now that raises a tough question: is it more dangerous to lock up the house and chance a little spontaneous combustion, or leave it open so Al Gore might come in? More simply, is it worse to burn...

Re: Snow day in Ehime-ken, Japan

Thanks for the update because it caught me in time. I was planning to go out today to get the nutritious stuff and am glad I didn't get the wrong one. Tonight we will have a feast. Be careful how you store it though! Alfalfa, especially if it's cut when a little too green, is prone to spontan...

Re: Snow day in Ehime-ken, Japan

As it happens, I grew up in a small farming town, and the switch from rectangular to round bales happened (mostly, anyway) while I still lived there. I asked once about why they'd switched, and got an earful. The short answer is that round balers are cheaper, faster, and (most of all) much more depe...

Re: Birds 2012

The missus and I have a running gag that I like tits and she loves 'peckers  We had quite some weird looks on that one! When I was in high school the mother of a girl I hung out with thought it was the height of hilarity to go to a reasonably nice restaurant and say (in a shocked stage-whisper...

Hah -- I know better. You're trying to keep things topical! If it weren't such a nice picture, I'd say "shame on you!" :D

Re: Birds 2012

Well, in my mind, the tit was my main subject, although in the end, your focus is locked on the tick  Mark I'm not sure, but I think I may have detected a hint of sarcasm when my wife leaned over my shoulder and said: "Imagine that: a man whose main focus is on a tit" (well, she used...

The texture on the petals certainly makes it look like rim lighting. Definitely nice results regardless of how he got them though.

Re: Flowers 2012 (Photoclubalpha Phlora!)

Thanks Birma. It turns out it looked better than it tasted -- it had frozen, so when I quit taking pictures, I ended up biting into a blog of mush. Until then, it looked nice though...

Re: Snow day in Ehime-ken, Japan

These would definitely give a new twist to the phrase "mowing the grass"! I'm sure we've all heard/read many times how bamboo is the largest type of grass on earth, but these definitely bring that home a lot better than a page of dry statistics about height, maximum mass of a single plant,...

Still not a flower, but at least this one is colorful:
