Re: Minolta Dimage 5400

Not having luck using this with 1. firewire 2. vista Any idea? You could try VueScan ( http://www.hamrick.com/ ). I am not sure if it works with your scanner, but they have a trial version that you could try. I have used it with a couple of my obsolete scanners that will never get vista drivers and...

Re: a300, a350, a700 or a900?

I think It's safe to say that I will find myself purchasing a CZ 16-80mm DT lens :) ......then.... if I feel the need...... pick myself up an a700 body! (or a900 if I deem it really really necessary) A word of warning - CZ 16 -80 is a DT (crop lens) so if you are serious about the A900 then perhaps...

Re: Interesting Question

We all know this effect of the light rays when we photograph light sources at night. Now where do they come from? I've checked the pics, it seems all lamps have 15 or 16 light rays. This can't be random! But then, I doubt the lens he used has 15 aperture blades (In some pics the artefacts you see d...

Re: a300, a350, a700 or a900?

Having been an a100 owner since its release and after seeing all these new swanky models come out, I'm now thinking its time to upgrade! but I really need some advice on which alpha to get. Q. Why do I want to upgrade from my current a100? A. I want better detail, noise control and the ability to p...

Re: Chosing a film camera

The only down side is that they will not AF SSM lenses, so if you want to use your CZ 24-70 f/2.8 on it you are out of luck. :( mmm I think that, If you own the CZ 24~770 2.8, you can afford a Maxxum 7 or 9! Good point. Although If I had just bought a CZ 24-70 f/2.8 then there would be no way I cou...

Re: Chosing a film camera

As a [cheaper] alternative to the 7 [maybe about the same price as a 5], how about a 600si - arguably the forerunner of the 7s control philosophy, and if you can get a v/grip for it, that adds a flash-sync port and use of AAs - not quite as solid as the 7, and the AF is less sophisticated [read 'ol...

Re: Get rid of power cables crossing the photo

Hi, I always encounter with annoying power cables crossing my landscape photos. I know I should not have them in the frame at the first place, but sometimes I just don't want to give up the shot. I have tried using "Clone Stamp Tools" to slowly clone them away. But, besides taking very lo...

Re: Sigma HSM lenses now!

Anyway if someone has really a problem, send me a picture of the rash and the complaints in a few words (not long list please), and I'll be glad to be of assistance (consider it a contribution in telemedicine  ) I was tempted to post a close up of some rusty steel and see if you could diagnose...

Re: Filter recommendation/help

Thanks Tom, do you use a c/pl on the 10-20 I haven't to date, but here are the results of a few tests. (nothing scientific. P mode, and rattled off a few shots with filters on. No PP etc)... From approx 14mm it is not a problem. Wider and you start getting the corners compromised. At 10mm you can s...

Re: Filter recommendation/help

Thanks David Yes your right 77mm not 72, good job I held back on purchase. From your experiments.. thank you for the trouble.. it looks like hand holding will be the best option anyway. I would use a screw in c/pl rather than square, low profile on the wide lens. This has thrown up a lot of questio...
