Re: Sony quality control problems

I think the disappointment is that Sony fails to acknowledge that there are some characteristic failures with their cameras that are design related (I don't consider them QC problems). KM at least acknowledged the FBF problem and did have it fixed for free well outside of the warranty period. On the...

Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?

If now SAR gets *correct* inside info/rumors, maybe that is because the "leakers" know SAR has huge web traffic. Sony has nothing to do with it (good or bad). The credit goes to Andrea who made it an interesting and informative site so that thousands visit it daily. SAR gets "leaks&q...

Re: A77 SLT -degradation (not present)

I've noticed that in the dpreview studio raws, that the ghosting noticed with the A55 (for example under the white cross bar of the cross) is not visible in the A77, which is very good news.

Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?

I bet you two also believe in alien abductions. Yes there are other sites with similar structure (4/3 rumor, mirrorless rumors, k-rumors), not because there is some vast world wide conspiracy by all these different companies to have identical rumor sites, but because two friends run these sites tog...

Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?

Found on another forum. For you in the UK do you know if the A77 has been pulled from the UK because of QC problems? http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/does-sony-uk-have-put-a-hold-on-all-a77-orders-till-they-investigate-a-problem/ Then this one claims that the A77 was released without testing: http://...

Re: "That damn shoe"

Interesting. I have a flash bracket for my a-mount cameras that does exactly what the pro wanted, easily changes orientation and keeps the flash aligned over the lens. I just use the old Minolta OS/FS adapters. And its fairly compact and not that heavy. I think the bigger problem is that Minolta and...

Re: Pop Photo really likes A77

A general statement about US photo magazines is "they've never met a sponsors product they didn't like." In the past PopPhoto wasn't the worst and actually had some scientific measurements, but you needed a code book to figure out when the praise was really carefully worded criticism. Othe...

Re: A77 and Slow Sync - a step backwards??

I believe that Sony first offered slow sync mode (after a lot of complaints ranging back to the KM7D and earlier in the film era) in the A500 (one bright spot in that camera). It was not available earlier in either the A700 or A900 (not sure if it was added in the A900 firmware update). tom Slow sy...

Re: A77 and Slow Sync - a step backwards??

I think you can get slow sync automatically anyway if the ambient and the ISO is low with medium-ish f-stops. I think also you can set it via the flash, on my F56 at least if I remember correctly. But I later discovered that even if HSS is shown on the camera or flash panels the system will choose ...

A77 and Slow Sync - a step backwards??

Maybe I missed it, but in the manual there is no option for setting flash mode to Slow Sync. You have to use the old Minolta method of holding in the AEL button. I believe that Sony first offered slow sync mode (after a lot of complaints ranging back to the KM7D and earlier in the film era) in the A...

Re: A700 Flash shoe problem

It sounds like the dies used to make the shoe are worn (original Minolta??) or else there was too much tolerance in their manufacture. It's unfortunate, because the main selling point for the Minolta flash shoe was its one-click positive mounting. I was very happy when Minolta had it on their camera...

Re: Trying to get a preorder for an a77

Tom it’s the hoary old chestnut that the SLT defenders trot out at every occasion, that mirror slap in the SLR design degrades the image. Something that only occurs at high magnification in actuality, whether the high magnification is macro or telephoto the high magnification magnifies the tremor c...

Re: LA-EA2-like adapter for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc. lens

If my memory is correct, I think I recall reading many months ago that Sony announced they were making public all of the lens-camera communication details for the NEX cameras to encourage third parties to make lenses for the NEX cameras. I didn't know that. Yes, it seems like that would remove the ...

Re: LA-EA2-like adapter for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc. lens

Tom - the reason no-one adapted Canon lenses if first of all that the lens-focalplane register is too short, secondly that EF-S lenses intrude into the camera and also don't cover a 1.5X sensor, thirdly that they require electronic operation and setting of the aperture (like NEX) not mechanical lik...
