Re: Jay Maisel loves his Nikon 28-300mm

It looks like Canon are not making any more FM lenses , I will wait and see how things develop with Canon, but things have been suspiciously quiet from Canon for too long. You may be right re the R7

Re: Looking back was some times better

The writing was on the wall even then. What Pro is going to buy into Sony when you have the 2 market leaders Canon & Nikon in APS-C & FF I have one foot in the Canon camp as I have a 650D and M5, and will jump ship completely soon, My only connection now with Sony is my old A58 and a couple ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I think Nikon hit the spot with the D780, have you got used to twisting the lens the other way to remove and fit it, It threw me when I first picked up a D5100. There are some excellent 3rd party lenses out there for Nikon and Canon, the worlds your Oyster with Nikon, I had a standard mode on shutte...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Like the Fender amp, I have one like that for home use. What reason did Sony decide to go down the SLT road. They had perfectly good Minolta bodies that could have been developed without SLT. What did you think of the A380, last of the OVF cameras? I have always fancied one, I believe they did a che...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I still find it a pleasure to use my old Canon 650D with its OVF, also my old Olympus E cameras, but their OVF were pretty awful. SLT was never used by any other camera brand, probably because of patents, but in reality, people like Canikon were not impressed compared to their OVF cameras. SLT also ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Just a guess, but if Sony continued with A mount would they finally give up SLT and move to more a conventional system, I doubt they even thought about it because their road map is set out for E mount. They should have updated and modernised Minolta cameras rather than SLT.

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Well, I guess you have convinced yourself which way to go, I would to. The D780 is aimed at the pro thus you get some very good features, go for it.

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I have to agree re the Nikon vs Sony A mount. IBS is preferable for me at least, but OIS is very good as well but has bulked out the lenses a bit. Pentax are the only other camera with an OVF and IBS but I wouldn't go near them. Its interesting to note that Nikon use Sony sensors ( or did ) but its ...

Re: Looking back was some times better

I have bought several lens hoods from JJC in the past, they are well made ( in China ) and good price, I refuse to pay Canon nearly £40 for a lens hood. Its the 'small' lighter systems that they are all moving to, Sony being no exception. The masters of small are the M/4/3, cameras, all have decent ...

Re: Looking back was some times better

There is no getting away from it, Sony dumped on A mount users hoping dyed in the wool Sony fans will move to E mount. I agree re the Minolta lenses, and for me that's the biggest heart ache to abandon. But once your dumped on its time to jump ship. I guess you could keep back one Sony camera for po...

Re: Looking back was some times better

Sony have put their cards on the table hoping ex A mount users will jump to E mount, I guess they think Brand loyalty has some swing. Me I never had brand loyalty except in the old 35 mm days. A mount will dwindle to a has-been with a few dedicated users, My local camera store is already seeing an i...

Re: Looking back was some times better

I think I'm in a different boat to you Barry, I'm strictly an amateur and just take pics for pleasure, I like having good gear, in my 35-mm days I had several cameras, Praktika, Olympus OM 2, Pentax Rolleiflex SLR, Canon, and latterly Minolta 35-mm SLR's which I still have and use occasionally, zoom...

Re: Looking back was some times better

Sounds like a sensible route to take, if your looking at Canikon, look at the bigger picture on these 2 brands, they cater with an enormous back line and huge global used market. My old 650D with the 15-85 lens takes outstanding pictures, Its a APS-C cropped system but that's what most people want. ...

Re: Looking back was some times better

I built a nice 3 lens system for my old Canon 650D and for Peanuts, even include the Canon 15-85, a cracking walk about lens. Well going back to a DSLR won't be much of a shock as you had years with A mount. Canikon have a huge used market. Are you putting E mount to one side. I think their lens cho...
