Re: Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced

Those guys are renowned for their twisted tests. They never sharpen those JPEGs correctly; and this time, it seems they also tilt the thing wrong way at times... Well, I guess it's too much 'wodka' (=vodka in Polish) for them. But this particular sample - http://pliki.optyczne.pl/sam24TS/1/sam24_fot...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Evidently the "green line" was fixed according to the Sony guy, at the second service and that they again replaced the main board on the camera (this is what I was told) That may mean they did some soldering, maybe adding some small parts that were not there in the original design. So the...

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

Wouldn't it be funny if this has the green line issue too! I'll know more when it turns up. Chances are, you'll have that green line there. It's most likely to be an issue with electronics design - some kind of overload in the sensels or in the preamps that shifts the voltage of the power lines on ...

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

Hum? Hard to believe third party lens transmit data to the RAW file... No other way to interpret the behaviour that I could think up. Of that inability to switch off the embedded corrections, that's a very unprofessional approach. But then again, Adobe doesn't even know how to adjust saturation wit...

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

Does Canon put the correction data in the raw file like m4/3 does or are you saying that Adobe has an internal to LR lens profile that it uses instead of having a separate one like for the S95, G12, and DSLR lenses? I don't really know how it works in the Canon case. What I know, though, is that bo...

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

Upon further investigation I discovered that it appears like the G15 raw file may be like m4/3 raw files in that it contains embedded lens correction data. The m4/3 raw files contain the lens correction data for distortion and shading, LR reads it, and automatically does corrections without a separ...

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR

Barry, that 40Mp FF sensor would make mere 18Mp in APS crop. That's OK, but to get rid of LPF without any possible problems it would take about 40Mp in APS crop and 90Mp in FF. But those sensels may well be binned on the sensor to some more workable lower resolution.

Re: No A78 this year according to SAR

I think Greg is quite right. The best APS SLT would be an a99 with a 40+ Mp sensor. As it is now, the APS pixelcount is too low. Otherwise, an EVF body may have a sensor as oversized as can be, the best would be to cover all that the mount throat may let in. So it would make more sense to develop ne...

Re: SLT light show

I don't really know how it all works with a77/99. What I know is that all the Nex and a55 definitely had the topmost layer (that apparently is a hot mirror) made of plastic film that hangs about 1-2mm above the rest of filter sandwich. At the same time, the a700/300/350/900/850/550/500 all seemed to...

Re: SLT light show

The mirror is easy to remove. All should be clear upon doing so. But the examples in that link show something that comes not from the mirror, I'm afraid. And the fact that it shows only above the bright parts does only tell that there's more light and ghosts are brighter and hence better visible. I ...

Re: Making EVF's brighter than OVF's under bright daylight.

it could be concentrated slightly using a fresnel or prismatic lens. I'd prefer some optic fiber arrangement. That would be good for the future. Still, for the time being, your suggestions sound much more realistic... But one may only dream, as adding more electronics is the way they do it now. It'...

Making EVF's brighter than OVF's under bright daylight.

That's very much possible. All that's needed is to use that bright daylight for the EVF LCD backlight together with the normal backlight. That would also help with the WB of such display.

Obviously, that won't work for OLED.

Re: Sony Support/Service - My opinion

That green line comes from the current flowing from the sensels into the power lines on the sensor as they are horizontal while signal lines are vertical on those Sony sensors. Means the sensels go into photovoltaic mode as they overflow and the power lines (or the supply source) have the resistance...

Re: SLT light show

The ideal sensor would be even better than film - a dead black surface, with no glass layer or microlenses over it. And they are trying to accomplish this task. Right now there seems to be a viable approach with the so-called 'light traps' being basically the pipes extending from the silicon surfac...

Re: RX100 accessories

I have an RX100 for quite some time already. And I find it's usability too limited due to poor lens quality - there is too much LoCA in the blur, it's visible even at very small blur radius all the way till f/8. So I shoot mostly at f/9 in good light or wide open in the dark - that's too limiting. A...
