Re: Does everyone want large bodied, full frame bodies?

That's another reason why I'm not overly keen on EVF's, the main sensor in a DSLR is big and runs hot and it has too be 'on' all the time, using quite a lot of battery power (power that an OVF doesn't use), there is sensor heating for sure (lifespan reduced?) and battery heating also from the conti...

Re: Does everyone want large bodied, full frame bodies?

We're going to see the EVF taking over, I guarantee it. Think of how both amateurs and pro video shooters rely now on EVF or flip out or external monitors for their shooting. It's only a matter of time as they improve, eliminate ghosting, increase resolution and handle low light. Video is very low ...

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

This is incorrect. Light is only being diverted for the Phase Detect AF which can operate in considerable less brightness than in previous pellicle cameras where viewfinder relied on the the pellicle mirror. I always assumed that the angle chosen was to move the imaging on the AF unit forward and s...

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

I'm actually in the camp who'd like a ringflash - though one of the one's who prefer a true ringflash and one that supports the 77mm thread size so it can be used on all the Zeiss glass. But I also don't expect Sony to make it just because I want it. It will get made if they can sell if for a profi...

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

The ringflash could come back. It will depend on the number of people willing to buy one. Once again, Sony knows all the KM sales numbers and profit margins. And just how many of the LED rings has Sony sold. I'm sure they make a profit off something that ebay sellors make and sell for practically n...

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

Barry, look at it this way: they made a camera that can do 6fps, maintaining live-view and all other expected functionality. Then they said, "well, what would it take to go faster, still?" I don't think the compromises to get it to 10 fps are ideal, but considering the price, it would be ...

Re: Q&A with the SLT Development Team

I'm glad we were able to get some interesting information back from the Sony guys, and I'm glad you all appreciated it. They were more friendly and unfiltered in their responses than I ever would have imagined. How did I get to do this? I maintained contact with a Sony blog editor from the old Back...

Re: Sony alpha A55

You can now contemplate the latest interview with the Sony product guy in Sweden. Sorry, denial is about as good as holding your finger in a dike to hold back the tide. It appears to be a done deal. Walt Well, It looks like I'll have to buy a 580 and keep an eye out for all that used stuff on e-bay...

Re: Sony alpha A55

I don't really have any ambition to get into the camera accessory business, one that's the responsibility of the camera manufacturer anyway, (Minolta had no trouble being able too design, make and sell it originally, so why was it so hard for Sony just too copy it ?), besides I'd have too compete a...

Re: Sony 560 reportedly no longer available for preorder

... or just not to damage the SLTs sale. Just think how easy it will be to say SLTs are what everybody wants if that's the only choice you offer. Fits right in with the rumors and product manager interview which say Sony is ending making DSLRs with OVF altogether. Sony, soon to be back to be...

Re: Sony alpha A55

They might do that, but they might also just choose different trade-offs when designing a lens. For example, worry a bit less about distortion or vignetting since correction with software is fairly easy, but consider size, weight, sharpness, CA, price, etc. to be more important. You could mount an ...

Re: Sony alpha A55

Problem is people (like you...) discuss the future using rumors as facts -and it is not because SAR have some "good" information that SAR publish "facts". IMHO, all this exercise of rhetoric is a waste of time. You can now contemplate the latest interview with the Sony product g...

Yep, only Canon, Nikon, and even Pentax can make cameras suitable across a wide range of photographers and photography. It's entirely unreasonable to expect that of Sony too ;-)

There is no requirement for those to be connected. One pair is possible without the other being true.

Re: Sony alpha A55

The sensor is also new (the prototype has a 18Megapixels sensor) SAR got that bit wrong... I never imagined that that really matters (SAR publishing right or wrong data...) The idea that the 7 series would be a 18MP has been around for some time, I think at least before last spring if I remember ri...
